Q: iPhone 6 Plus Screen Orientation Sticks

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, 64GB. I am having the followign issue:

My screen will either get stuck in landscape or upside down. Yes, I said upside down. There are times I will unlock the the phone and when the home screen comes up, everything is upside down, just like an iPad would be when you turn it around. Even when I spin the phone around, trying to get it to turn the screen, it won't rotate the icons. I hit the power button, and unlock it again, but it doesn't always fix it. Last time it was stuck, I had to power the phone off and back  on before it would work right again.

I have checked the orientation lock button, and it is not activate.

I have checked to see if my screen is regular or zoom and it is set to regular.

Anyone else seeing this? I wonder if it is a bug with hardware that controls orientation?

I'm having the same issue.. Should I even bother going to the store to replace it? Seems to be fine when I lock the orientation but then it's inconvenient when I'm trying to look at landscape pictures or watchig a YouTube video, etc. The only thing about replacing it is I'm not sure if they'd replace the tempered glass screen protector or if it would even fix the issue at all and it be a waste of a trip.

I am also having this same issue a lot.

Also my screen freezes and won't do anything at all.  I have to restart the phone.

I have the 64 GB 6+.  I sure hope there is a fix for this soon, it's very frustrating.

Apple refused to repair the phone stating that they couldn't reproduce the problem and that it was a software issue.

I still have the same phone and still have the same issue.

I was hoping Apple would perform more QC on their devices before releasing them. I feel like Jobs would have never let this pass. Then again, remember attenae-gate?

My iphone 5 did this and so does my iphone 6 plus.  I am going to lock it and just use portrait.  To get it to change I have to exit the program- like messages- and re-enter.

Same thing with me. Screek orientation problems, Safari freezes up A LOT and I'm seeing problems with onscreen "buttons" dissapearing while using safari. One of the things im also seeing is that the phone is screen locking on its own. Idk if this is the case or not, but I have an apple leather case on iT So I would think it wouldn't be that. I'm also having touch screen problems. incan touch something several times and not open the link or picture. When I force quit the app or what not and restart it sometimes it will work sometimes it won't.

They are telling me the same thing that they can't trace the problem but I'll be damned if they're gonna send me the same phone with the same issue. I will have everyone in my family drop Apple in a heartbeat. This is ridiculous, didn't have the phone but for 10 days before having this issue. I've loved my apple phones since I switched from android and never planned on going back but if they want to try and stick me with a faulty phone, theres going to be an issue.

II'm with ya man. II'm starting to wish I had got a lumia1520. I'm in deep in the iOS realm with both tablet and handset now though so hopefully they'll fix it.

    Also having same problem,

    I have the iPhone 6 64G.

Here is how I noticed the problem.

    1. Put iPhone in landscape mode (e-mail, text, webpage)

    2. Turn off the phone(not power down just lock it).

    3. hold it in portrait mode and turn it back on. When you unlock it the e-mail, text or webpage stays stuck in landscape mode. I hope this is a software problem don't feel like getting another phone.

    Apple FIX this!!!!!!

I Have a 5s and this issue occurs after every other iOS upgrade. It's not a user or hardware issue, it's a software bug and it's making me very sad. How's that world class Apple support coming? Just about ready, yet?

It is unbelievable that Apple is blind to this problem.

what I see for this screen rotation lock. compass is not working. I tried to calibrate it , there is no move. thats why, iPhone do not understands our rotation to take action according to.  it looks there is hardware problem. resetting did not help it.

Is anyone else still having this issue? I am about to go to the local Apple Store for another replacement. Even after the first replacement I am still having rotation issues where it gets stuck in landscape orientation. I have the 6 plus 64gb.

I have a 128GB 6 plus and only encountered this issue after updating to IOS 9.  I found a work around that has resolved the issue for me 100% Hope it helps you too.

    Symptoms:

    • Seemingly on a random basis, when unlocking my phone or returning to the home screen from an app, my iPhone will flip into landscape mode and get stuck there, even if the phone is physically in portrait orientation.
    • If I then physically rotate my phone to landscape orientation and then back to portrait, the home screen does not respond to the rotation, it stays in landscape.
    • If I launch an app such as Mail, rotation response is normal. I can go from portrait to landscape and back as expected.  If I flip to portrait in the app, then hit the home button, my home screen will return to portrait orientation.
    • Bottom line is that the accelerometer responds inside of apps, but not on the home screen when the phone is in this error state.
    • Once the phone is in the error state, there doesn't seem to be any combination of settings, etc that can return it to its proper state.

    Work Around:

    • Shut off your phone (I don't mean lock the screen, I meet hold down the sleep/wake button until the power off slide shows up and shut the phone down.
    • Hold the phone in portrait orientation and power the phone on.
    • Keep the phone in portrait orientation until it is fully booted, then unlock the phone to go to your home screen.
    • Now rotate the phone to landscape mode.  If it responds normally and goes back and forth to landscape and portait as expected, you're not in the error state and the home screen accelerometer will continue to function normally until you have to do a reboot.
    • If when you power the phone on and unlock the phone it is stuck on portrait mode and will not rotate into landscape mode on the home screen, the phone booted into the error state.  Power it off again and power it back on in portrait orientation.  Repeat until it boots into a non-error state.

    Bottom Line:

    • Problem seems to be on accelerometer calibration for the home screen during start up.  If it self calibrates during startup, you're good.  If not, reboot in portrait mode.

Hope that helps, I haven't had to deal with this frustration since.

    Side Note:

    • When I updated to IOS 9, I started the update and put my phone down on the table through the entire process including when it booted up.  That's when all of these issues started.
    • When I updated to IOS 9.0.2, I made sure the phone was in portrait orientation and physically vertical through the entire update and boot up process.  Haven't had the issue return since.

Same problem, on original iPhone 6s Plus 128 AND replacement one as well, no way it is a hardware issue.
