Q: iPhone 6 Plus Screen Orientation Sticks

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, 64GB. I am having the followign issue:

My screen will either get stuck in landscape or upside down. Yes, I said upside down. There are times I will unlock the the phone and when the home screen comes up, everything is upside down, just like an iPad would be when you turn it around. Even when I spin the phone around, trying to get it to turn the screen, it won't rotate the icons. I hit the power button, and unlock it again, but it doesn't always fix it. Last time it was stuck, I had to power the phone off and back  on before it would work right again.

I have checked the orientation lock button, and it is not activate.

I have checked to see if my screen is regular or zoom and it is set to regular.

Anyone else seeing this? I wonder if it is a bug with hardware that controls orientation?

    This isn't a hardware issue.

The problem went away completely when I turned off reachability. There's been a lot of little bugs in iOS8, this is just one of those.

Same issue here. The lock screen is in the correct orientation, however once you unlock the phone the main home screen is upside down and will not rotate at all. I have also noticed that if you use the 'orientation lock' that it rotates the screen to be the correct way up!

    (iPhone 6 4.7" 64gb T-Mobile)

So for the past week or so, I haven't had any problems with screen orientation or keyboard after I reset all settings.

But, the downside is I'm not sure if I changed all my settings back to match exactly how it was before.

I've had my 6 plus for a few days, and I've experienced this problem so many times, my orientation gets stuck in apps, on the home screen, I've even seen the battery bar and signal on the side of the lock screen!!! My phone had its orientation of the home screen stuck upside down and I had to use the phone upside down, whilst the apps would allow the orientation to change, but when i went back to the home screen it was still upside down. This is a major software bug that I hope is fixed with iOS 8.1.

Same issue with iPhone 6 Plus 128GB. I opened Compass and calibrated it. That was 5 minutes ago, and that seems to have fixed it for now. After reading posts all over the Internet, I'm not confident it will stay fixed. It seems a variety of things reset it, but don't fix it permanently.

I'm experiencing the same problem with my iPhone 6 Plus 64GB model too. The orientation keeps locking and I'm forced to re-start the phone every time it happens.

My phone update.....got my replacement phone on Thursday, from Apple who deemed this issue as a hardware issue. Have not experienced the issue thus far. Fingers crossed of course    I am assuming it might have been the phone at this point. I will update if things change!

Thanks for the update. I might as well get mine replaced from Apple as I bought it in-store. I did take some video of my iPhone when it was acting funky, just in case they wanted to see proof.

I am convinced this is not hardware

I have had the problem with my iPhone 6 plus, 128 but frankly it is worse on my ipad air after updating to iOS 8.

never had the issue with it on ios 7

i really think it is software

my iPhone is much better. Still happens but less often

i I have my iPad air locked in portrait or it would always be an issue

Upgrade to iOS 8.1.  It came out today.  It's no guarantee, since people have reported various things "fixing" it for up to 48 hours, but since I updated I've not hit this, and I was getting that locked, wrong-orientation behavior easily 50% of the time I opened it before the upgrade.

I tried turning off reachability, and several other things people in this thread have suggested, and none of them have worked for long.  But Apple may have actually fixed the underlying problem in 8.1.  Here's hoping.

Same issue here and I'm on 8.1 now

TBH the 6+ has addressed battery issues, but with it being taller than the Note 4 for a smaller screen snd being half the spec of the note 4 this device lives or dies based on IOS and 8 has been pony to say the least
