Very slow internet on my new macbook pro

I have a brand new macbook pro where the internet connection is very slow. On my old iMac I get more than 10x speed on the same wireless connection. Any idea of what is wrong?

Is it transferring large files that are slow, or just surfing the web?

If it is surfing the web, it is possible the DNS server is slow in lookup up domain names which most web sites have dozens of in every page.

Experiment with using an alternate DNS server

System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+] and enter

8.8.8.8 (the Google DNS server)

208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS server)

See if that changes behavior. If it does, then you need to investigate your home router as well as the DNS server provided by your ISP.

Hi and thanks for your answer.

I did try to change the DNS as suggested, but with the same result. I use different surfometers to measure speed, and the strange is that even if I have reset all of routers and modems the problem exists. But both my iMac and my Win laptop are getting 10x speed on the same wireless. This Macbook is under 1 month old, so I am worried that there might be HW even if it s probably sw or user related...
