Sep 1, 2015 10:30 AM in response to GIS_Kidby Tyler.Reichelt,I was having this issue and found the culprit in my case. My Apple Watch. It is the only bluetooth device hooked up to my iPhone. When I disable bluetooth on the phone, I get text tone while the phone is locked. When I turn Bluetooth on and my Apple Watch is the only Bluetooth device connected, I do not get text tones. When I leave bluetooth on my phone turned on and also turn my Apple Watch off, I get text tones while my iPhone screen is locked. When I turn my Apple Watch back on, I stop getting text tones while my screen is locked. It seems that my phone may be treating my Apple Watch like a bluetooth headset, yet no sound comes out of the Apple Watch. In my case, the combo of Bluetooth and my Apple Watch appear to be the culprits here.

Sep 14, 2015 6:13 PM in response to Tyler.Reicheltby osy2015,It was exactly the same case for me. I un-pair Apple watch and text notification sound back with locked screen.
I also noted that Apple Watch battery was almost off (never happened to me before). Probably Apple Watch stuck with something...

Sep 26, 2015 2:26 AM in response to GIS_Kidby Annika CT,I noticed that my iPhone 6 has gotten stuck in "Headphone mode" - with the result that i do not hear the messages http://www.iphonetopics.com/iphone-stuck-in-headphones-mode/ With headphones on i hear the keyboard being clicked and messages coming in!
When unplugging headphones the phone still is in headphone mode though… :-(

Sep 27, 2015 11:20 AM in response to iBrandoby William Metcalf,After trying everything in this thread, up to here, this worked! Who'd-a-thunk.....there's a do-not-disturb setting for each individual contact. Useful if you know about it. A possible nightmare if you don't! This is a new 6S. Must set up with this option activated. At least I learned something new. Thanks.

Oct 5, 2015 3:36 PM in response to GIS_Kidby jefferson2830,I Just went to setting, pulled up notifications, went down to messages, and the messages were turned off in the notifications. We have to have the notifications turned on regarding the messages in order for us to get sound when we're texted. Have a blessed and pleasant evening everyone.

Oct 9, 2015 8:30 AM in response to GIS_Kidby VinnovationsVG,So frustrating - I thought this was intermittent for me. Turned out it was just under the edit settings of my most common business contact.
>"Messages"
>certain contact
>"Details" (top right hand corner)
>part ways down "Do Not Disturb" was activated
Must have tripped it while looking at past files sent.

Oct 9, 2015 8:41 AM in response to VinnovationsVGby pmshop,The do not disturb may work for some.
The correct answer was volume turned down while watching YouTube Video.
But that was last iOS

Oct 17, 2015 7:36 PM in response to tyousaby Zeerah2006,Ok I had tried EVERYTHING I'd read here and was going CRAZY.... I have the apple watch so I HAVE to have bluetooth on but I found turning off Bluetooth for some reason made it work... I got text tones even when the phone was in lock...
so I went back and did what several people had said about "do not disturb" but mine was never on..no green showing it was clearly off....HOWEVER I noticed it did have a time set to not disturb me.. so I sat it to 10:00pm to 10:00pm.... never dreaming that work have an impact... but it did...
now I'm back on bluetooth and it seems to be working just fine.. I'm getting tones while on the lock screen...
Hope this helps ......

Oct 18, 2015 8:33 AM in response to Zeerah2006by Zeerah2006,Well that was a short lived fix..... after using the Bluetooth in my car (car stereo) once again no text notification sound when receiving a text....
and so far I haven't figured out how to get it back on..... what worked yesterday didn't work today........
Come on Apple this is ridiculous..... you KNOW there's a problem..... can't you PLEASE get this fixed.....
Us Apple users tend to be very loyal, even in the face of others proving that Android can deliver .....
Help us out, when you KNOW something isn't working.... fix it!

Oct 18, 2015 8:54 AM in response to Zeerah2006by Zeerah2006,BTW.....
For me it's definitely in the bluetooth, because if I turn off my bluetooth it works and I get my notifications again.... but I can't just turn bluetooth off because I use an Apple watch, which has to have bluetooth on to work with my iphone........ total BS! If I have to give up my hands free radio or my Apple watch..... the watch goes......
Also, the reason for me posting so many times is in hopes of helping the next person reading these post looking for suggestions....

Dec 1, 2015 8:06 PM in response to GIS_Kidby sls17,I have a 6s and have tried every solution on this page to no avail. All the settings are correct. The odd thing is that the notification sound happens when I am on the main message page only. There is NO sound if on the conversation page, home screen, another app, or the phone is off. HELP!! I am missing some really important messages.

Dec 3, 2015 11:22 AM in response to Zeerah2006by triodusiecle,Ok so I just joined the club on this nonsense no-sound on text message.
so the settings Do Not Disturb to a 10:00pm to 10:00pm (leaves my watch on constant Do Not Disturb) does make the sound back on iPhone and now I don't get it on my Watch!!! it's a vicious circle!!!
calling Apple support on this and I think everyone should do the same if we want this to be fixed in iOS as this is clearly a bug and there is no magical settings to make it work properly.
