not only is the iPhone 6 unlocked, but the t-mobile phones work on verizon!

Some people are saying that the only reason the voice is working is because of the LTE? is this correct? Or have you been able ot make phone calls without LTE coverage and VoLTE enabled?

If you bought the TMO phone at an Apple store within the past 14 days: go to the store and say you want to exchange it for a VZW "device only" one.

I bought a VZW "device only" iPhone 6 at an Apple store earlier today. It is not activated -- it was still in the shrink-wrapped box as I took it out of the store. I have removed and put aside its "virgin" VZW SIM for possible future use. I plan to activate the phone with TMO at a TMO store. I bought the VZW version to be assured that it has VZW-compatible CDMA radios (although there are reports that all non-Sprint models have the same radios, despite what http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/ says). I want that assurance so I have maximum carrier flexibility for the future.

I'm going with TMO because I want Wi-Fi calling. If there are any roadblocks with TMO activation I'll report back.

I already put a post previously with my experience. You can get either the Verizon or Tmobile models unlocked if you buy them directly from Apple. When you go to the store you have to tell them you want to pay full price for the device, or device only. I'm not sure if different stores have different policies because when you call over the phone they always tell you that you HAVE to activate it. The only one that I know for sure you don't have to activate is the Tmobile version, but I did manage to exchange that for a Verizon model without activating it. So go to any Apple store and tell them that you want the device only and that you will pay full price.

I think wifi calling should work because I believe I read another post here or somewhere that wifi calling worked with the Verizon model iPhone. Trust me, Tmobile will help you activate it if you have any issues and won't give you a hard time like Verizon.

Confirmed.

Buying an iPhone outright from T-mobile is unlocked (confirmed by T-mobile rep). An phone sold by Apple is currently locked to a network (confirmed by apple genius). I imagine T-mobile will unlock the phone when it's bought from apple but I have not had this part confirmed.

The Verizon iPhone 6 that I bought "device only" for full price today at an Apple Store was unlocked. See my post above at 1:10 PM PDT today for details.

The phone is currently activated and working on T-Mobile's network.

A T-Mobile rep can also confirm that if you throw yourself in front of a bus going at 60 mph, you won't die. That said, I have to see it to believe it. A lot of people bought the iPhone 5S last year directly from T-Mobile and went through **** to get it unlocked. Unless you have personally tested unlock on an iPhone 6 purchased from a T-Mobile store, DO NOT take their word for it. If you buy it directly from Apple the phone WILL BE unlocked already and no need to activate with T-Mobile, unless you want to.

I'm currently using Straight Talk with a Straight Talk iPhone 5, but i want to move to Verizon's Allset prepaid plan on an iPhone 6 so that I can get 4G LTE and mobile hotspot. Although from what I've read in this thread, it sounds like as long as I have an active SIM card I can use the T-Mobile version, my preference would be to get my hands on a true Verizon iPhone 6. Unfortunately live about 1.5 hours from the nearest Apple Store, so I don't want to drive all the way there just to find out that they won't sell me one. I saw today that they had the 16 GB Verizon iPhone 6 in stock, so I called to ask if they would sell me one outright. The answer I got was something along the lines of "No, you have to activate the phone with Verizon for us to sell you one". You know, the "stock answer". So I started chatting with the person and explained my situation. She put me on hold and went to check. She came back and confirmed for me that they couldn't sell me a Verizon iPhone 6 without activating it. She did say however that if I was a current Verizon customer, that they could sell me a full price Verizon iPhone if I simply didn't want to renew my contract.

So here's my question to anyone reading this thread that has been able to buy a Verizon iPhone 6 at an Apple Store for full price...were you a Verizon customer when you did that? If you weren't, what did you say to the employee who sold you the phone to get you to sell it to you?

It really doesn't make any sense to me that Apple would not want to sell anyone a phone at full price. I just don't get that.

I guess this won't be helpful, as it appears that store policies/knowledge and that of individual store employees varies quite a bit. However, all I "had to say" to buy a Verizon iPhone 6 yesterday at my local Apple store was that I wanted the phone "device only" at full price. The associate found the specific model on his handheld, did some magic, and said it would be brought out front shortly; and it was.

Now, as it happens, I was in fact a Verizon customer on my 4s, but the store people at no time knew that. As indicated above in a previous post (Oct. 13, 1:10 PM PDT) I took the phone from the store still in its shrink-wrapped box. There was no mention of a phone number, activation, etc.

Edit: the receipt for the transaction says:

"Verizon Account Information

No Wireless Service Activation During iPhone Sale"

Thanks for the response brec...that is helpful. It sounds like its just the luck of the draw, as is often the case with these sort of "policies" that seem to be get put into place at Apple Stores, especially with regards to iPhones. I just wish I didn't have to risk wasting a 3 hour round trip to find out if the particular Apple Store near me will sell me one.

Soka, a full price t-mobile iPhone 6 purchased directly from Apple IS unlocked. I purchased one (6 Plus) and simply slipped in my previously activated AT&T sim card, and all is working fine.

Actually, what I REALLY wanted was a full price Verizon phone, as based on previous experience (my 5s), I was able to ALSO use that with my AT&T account and knew it would obviously work on Verizon as well. Since I got my 6 Plus when availability was slim, I settled for t-mobile. As I said, it's working perfectly on AT&T, but I'm thrilled to know that if I decide to go to Verizon, it will (probably) work with them too! (and of course t-mobile if I go that route)

And, to get a little off topic here, I hate paying full price for phones, but I really love the freedom of not being tied to a contract these days!
