Anyone had a similar issue they were able to fix? Apple support suggested completely resetting my phone after trying a couple of other things. I'd rather not do that unless absolutely necessary.

See if anything in this support document will help. iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker While that will address the muffled issue, there could be other reasons causing the apps closing and you do not describe the Safari problem.

Thank you for the link! Safari will open, but frequently will not connect to the server or any of the pages I had already open.
