Nov 26, 2014 2:40 PM in response to JohnMHoytby Dan_Scott,Why do I care? I do want people to understand that 8.0.0-8.1 iOS releases had major flaws that affected nearly every single one of our business users, enough for them to open tickets with us. Enough for them to spend hours on the phone, and at the Apple store. Enough for them to replace their tablets.
But I also want people to know that with the release of 8.1.1, these same people (the ones who did not ditch their tablet) are somewhat happier and back to doing some work.
It's important to note that not a single person. Not. One. Single. Person.... Has said "This is so much better than 7x". Nobody has said it was faster, offered important improvements that help them do their work, or that it fixed anything that was not working for them.you
So, if you are reading this, and you use your iPad 2/3/mini in a business environment, it is my personal recommendation that you do not update to 8x from 7x.... Your mileage may vary...
Dead-on, Mr. Hoyt.
Amazing how much trouble we had to go through only to end up with 75% of the performance we had in the first place, with 7.x.

Nov 26, 2014 4:39 PM in response to Localboy56by kporterjr,I was unsuccessful in rolling my iPad 2 back to iOS7. If I can't figure this out then it will be no fun using it any more. Major bummer!

Nov 27, 2014 4:50 AM in response to pacoKASby dbullington71,Hopefully the next update will address iPad 2 performance because as of 11-27-2014 it is a deal-breaker. My recommendation is NOT upgrading from ios7 at this time.
Updated my iPad 2 last week after reading the fixes specific to iPod 2 performance listed in 8.1.1 update. Overall, there is a very noticeable reduction in performance. Safari is "choppy", pages load much slower as compared to ios7. The same can be said for the main page with app icons. The night of update the battery was depleted from 65% and has to be charged every three days since the update; it would go for 10+ days prior to update, typically used 1 hour per day.

Nov 28, 2014 10:08 PM in response to pacoKASby ayk1000,Looks like this is not an isolated issue. EVERYONE I have talked to has this issue. Has anyone in support officially responded yet? We miss you Steve!! The new management is destroying this company

Nov 29, 2014 9:13 AM in response to petermac87by PeterSim,Heres an update from my previous post:
I have managed to get fast internet back on my ipad2 after the iOS 8.1.1 update. Some of you in this discussion had already seen a fast internet experience after 8.1.1 but i hadn't. The internet was very bad/unuseable/non existent. So if you are having the same issue hopefully this may help you.
* I reset my iPad (General>Reset>Erase all content and settings). It was still 8.1.1 but deleted everything else. (i backed up pictures/videos and did a backup to iTunes first of course). That didn't help!
* I reset my network settings (General>Reset>Reset network settings.) That didn't help!
* I noticed that the iPad2 was doing everything else quickly, like opening apps, switching between apps, etc, it was just safari that was not opening webpages. I began to think maybe it was the wifi or the router rather than the iPad. I have a dual frequency router (2.4GHz & 5GHz) with the same SSID (wireless network name), so you don't actually know which frequency the iPad is connected to, it could be 2.4 or 5 GHz. I went into the router and gave the 2.4Ghz a new SSID, the iPad automatically connected to the 5GHz wireless network but when opening safari it would not load a webpage. That didn't help!
* I connected the iPad to the 2.4 GHz and hey presto it worked and opened a webpage very quickly. After opening a few more webpages it seemed to be fine. Its now been a few days and its still working fine viewing the web, streaming youtube and tv programmes. That did help!
* I connected back to the 5GHz wireless and it couldn't load a single webpage again. Is the iPad2 5GHz enabled? I read in another post it is.
* Of course you need to bare in mind that this has wiped the ipad2 and as yet i haven't added apps, emails, etc or done a restore from iTunes of the backup.
My ipad2 was unuseable before this so I hope it helps you get back on the net. Good luck!

Unfortunately that is not what most posters do and the thread ends up as an unhelpful mess of opinions, off-topic rants and bickering. Starting your own thread drawers more helpful responses to your specific issues and they do not tend to get lost amongst all the squabbling some folks like to do o these forums. Hopefully then your issues can be addressed properly.
Cheers

Nov 29, 2014 2:08 PM in response to petermac87by PeterSim,thanks. i wanted to continue in this thread to continue the conversation, and not the ranting! Its not obvious to me that you have to go all the way back to the original posting, but hey I’m not a regular in forums as you can probably tell. After some googling on this problem i ended up here. Thanks for your help and assistance Pete.

Dec 4, 2014 7:06 AM in response to tyler from fort lauderdaleby bfritze3000,To be fair, they aren't actually requiring you to update. All system apps are maintained as legacy software because Apple recognizes that so many owners of this obsolete model still need it to function. Sure you can't get the big, fancy, full-screen Instagram; boo-hoo I can't download Delectable and catalog my wine bottles, but my load times are down, my screen transitions are smooth, and it gets the job done.
It's unfortunate to see that nobody read any reviews beforehand or if they did, just installed the update anyway.
As you'll notice below, I tend to skip most OS releases
