Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

    Message to APPLE!!

Please fix the performance issue ASAP.  I depend on my iPad and iPhone for my livelihood and will be forced to move to Samsung if it isn't fixed by the end of the week.

I Sincerely doubt it is going to get fixed this week. I could be wrong. I use my iPad for work and the frustration level is so high that now when I am in a clients office, I leave the iPad in the car and use my HTC smartphone to take notes. It's faster anyway since it supports swype, but the screen is so small that I have to enlarge the text I typed just to read it.    Sigh....    I just want to work.

Apple never got the "work" part. That's why they dont understand the problems theyve caused. They told me streaming functionality shouldn't be affected like I care about the latest episode of Gossip Girl or downloading the new U2 album. I told the Customer Service Escalation guy I needed my ipad 2 for a business trip coming up and he completely missed the concept- like it was a non-sequitur. He offered me $70 worth of accessories to go away.

I Just found another issue with the new iOS 8 update on my iPad 3. I am sure this error is also present on the iPad 3. Video playback on Safari is really bad. Many times videos do not start playing when I select the play button. Many issues on pages that used to work flawlessly like cnn.com. The same pages work fine on my other iPad 2 that I haven't updated to iOS 8.

    this is very frustrating!

i Tried to use my iPad yesterday during a meeting and I had to resort to a traditional paper notepad. Not very convenient since I keep all my notes on my iPad for easy searching.

we need an estimate from Apple on when all these issues are going to be corrected. I hope Apple is reading all these messages posted on this forum. We at least want and deserve an acknowledgment from Apple of all these issues with iOS 8.

II've had the same experience with videos not playing. I wish I had followed my gut instinct to not install 8.0 right away. I was wooed by the ability to send audio messages. But now I don't even want to use my ipad because it is so maddening. Why in the world would Apple release this so-called upgrade with all these problems?

I can see why my friend says he never upgrades to me iOS after initial purchas. He is not experiencing any problems like I am with ios8.0.2 on the ipad2. I hope Apple get a fix out to all users promptly as my inclination to buy a new iPhone 6 is now seriously in doubt.

Yes, this is present on iPad 2, iPad3 and iPad Mini (We have all of them).   It's not just the streaming, it's the data throughput and over-all lagginess of the device that is causing this (I think).  Once whatever is eating all the processor and resources is fixed, my bet is that it fixes the streaming.

I'm sorry it is affecting you that badly.  It only affects me when my band has rehearsal, because we play audio/video clips via Safari to listen to them - it's very frustrating, but the other problems overshadow it completely (for me).

I simply can't believe that Apple is not some how financially liable!!!  They've screwed up every iPad2 on the planet and that's it?  Go buy a new one.  iPad2 users have been financially harmed... all you lawyers out there - it's time to make some money!

I'm just happy to see that you're post was actually kept up. It seems that anything that shows any kind of disloyalty to Apple gets deleted from this forum!

I Am also having issues with the iOS 8 upgrade. I have the ipad 3 with retina and it is now running  a lot slower than it did before. Also the touch is not working correctly. Now whenI do a google search, I have to scroll the page and then click on the link I want for the touch to work. Also if I am reading something on a website I have to scroll all the way to the top in order to switch tabs. also sometimes I have to click something 5-6 times before it finally responds. Websites like facebook also crash unexpectedly and take me back to the iPad home screen for no reason. Very frustrating!! I hope they fix these issues.

Every word you've spoke is true of my ipad (ipad2)) too.  Its now a useless piece of crap!  I've been an Apple supporter since the 90's but I've had it with this stuff.  What kind of organization releases junk like ios 8 on its customers without proper testing, let alone Beta trials, plus its now locked-out my ability to go back to ios7!  That's how Apple looks after its customers!  I suspect a lot of people (and certainly myself included) are going to use this as a basis for moving to some of the more exciting and innovative devices that have been released by Apple's commpetitors (hello Samsung)!

I thought this forum is for support with Apple devices.  Complaining doesn't provide suggestions on how to improve the performance.  Complaints can be made via other channels for example 1-800-275-2273.

So far, I have been making setting changes and the performance has indeed improved.  Of course the performance is not what it was before with iOS 7, but at least the performance is much better.

    1. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. Settings > General > Spotlight Search - disable the results that do not interest you
    4. Settings > General > Background App Refresh - disable
    5. Settings > Wallpaper - tap the wallpaper of choice and then select Perspective Zoom Off.
    6. Privacy > Location Services - disable as much as you can
    7. Settings > General > Keyboards - disable Predictive and anything else that doesn't interest you
    8. Settings > Notifications - disable notification for apps that don't interest you.
    9. Settings > Bluetooth - disable if not using
    10. When I use iPad for reading books only, I disable Wi-Fi.  When I require Internet, I turn on Wi-Fi
    11. Settings > Safari > Search Engine Suggestions - disable, i just go to google.com for seraches
    12. Settings > Safari > Spotlight Suggestions - disable
    13. Settings > Safari > Quick Website Search - disable
    14. Settings > Safari > Preload Top Hit - disable

Note:  Perform 1 and 2 first.  For Safari settings, I use bookmarks so that I don't need most of the settings

As for cellular, I don't have any recommendations since my iPad is Wi-Fi only.

I know that this is a lot of changes.  This is something we shouldn't have to do.  However, I want to use my iPad - and these settings make my iPad work fine for now.  Apple is listening and will provide a future update - so that we can revert the settings back to normal.

If anyone else have a suggestion, please let me know.  I would like to hear and try it.

    Thanks
