Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

I thought this forum is for support with Apple devices.  Complaining doesn't provide suggestions on how to improve the performance.  Complaints can be made via other channels for example 1-800-275-2273.

I think what you are witnessing are a bunch of unhappy people who are looking for anyone to listen to them.   They don't want to call a phone number and be told that they are doing it wrong, or that they need to buy a new product because the one that was working great no longer works.

I also believe everyone who is complaining has PROBABLY tried everything you suggest.  I know I have, and more.  I have invested maybe 15 hours into this issue because of our multiple iPads, and the clients I support through my business.    I continue to try everything that might work.

It is painfully obvious that nothing *WE* do is fixing the issue.  It's out of *OUR* hands.  So, be understanding when frustrated people look for an outlet.  It's therapeutic, if nothing else.

Uplate 8.0.2 brings little to no improvement.  Mail very slow.  Safari slow followed by screen freezes and what can only be described as a jumble of screens.  History, once opened, refuses to close.  Ads clog the screen everywhere and just touching them send the iPad into chaos.  Unbelievable.

Are Apple listening ?  Don't think I will be completing my Mac order this Xmas.  Shame but customer service is key and that includes keeping your customers informed.  all I want is my I pad to work as it did a few days ago.

Have you been through the constructive suggestions on this thread, regarding settings, resets etc?

this may well have been a poor choice by apple: however, think carefully before you choose another brand. A lot of people on this thread reflexively reach for the Samsung brand - tell me, do you think your new Samsung tablet would be supported with security updates 3 years after release?

the fact that the ipad2 has received ios8 is actually cause for celebration: your investment in an embedded tablet platform remains up to date - I can guarantee that a Samsung device will only stay up to date after 3 years with android if you replace the OS with a cyanogenmod build. Are you willing to learn this?

likewise macs: your OS updates are cheap: seen the price of a windows licence lately?

finally: I appreciate that you might regard this thread as therapeutic, but ultimately you have to remember that this is essentially a technical self-help forum: if you post successful workarounds here, it's of benefit to the community.

IF you you continue to think that Apple will respond to this forum you are going to be disappointed (see posts with "apple? Hello" on).

Previous posters have mentioned that it is possible to raise issue reports with apple through a dedicated site - I would urge all of you to do this, and spread the word to do likewise: if the ipad2 issues are as widespread as you think, millions of devices are misbehaving and that's a lot of issue reports. Apple will listen if enough people report it - the iPhone 4 redux of iOS 7 proves this.

so: don't waste your emotional energy on this thread: analyse it for any positive workarounds (there have been several reported to help) and get those issue reports in.

Please do not misinterpret this message. I am attempting to help.

    Basexperience:

Thanks for your post. I suspect most if not all of us have indeed been through the detailed workarounds, and I suspect we all had the same results- which is frustrating. You are absolutely right to interject some cool-headed logic into this forum- thank you for reminding us all that it's first and foremost a technical self-help forum, and has been invaluable in the past. I'm guilty of using it to simply complain about Apple, and I'll stop. I'll keep working on other angles.

    Good luck.

PS: From a technical standpoint, I've found that if you turn the iPad 2 with IOS 8.0.2 off completely, and then don't turn it back on again, it's not any better, but it's not worse.

I agree with all I've read on this subject in all the feed.

I have exactly the same problem.

Has Mac said or done anything to indicate the THEY are aware of the problem and willing/trying to do something about it?

I've not seen any feed back from them on this discussion at all, hmmmmm!

When Windows updates an entire operating system, a license is required to be purchased, but they provide far more frequent updates and patches as problems arise.  But most importantly, if you decide the new OS is not working on your PC YOU CAN EASILY AND QUICKLY RESTORE THE PREVIOUS OS WITHOUT LOSING DATA.

This concept seems completely foreign to Apple, because their bottom line depends on purchases of new equipment, not far less expensive licenses which are much easier to work with.

Apple is fully aware of the problems, but solving them for our iPads and iPhones mean we won't be buying new ones anytime soon, which is contrary to their business plan.

Spot on. This is why I just let my iDevices retire (not so) gracefully. My iPad 2 is now so slow that everything moves at the reverse of speed of light (times meters squared per seconds squared to get units right). There's a reason why my last cell phones have been Nokia Lumias and the stolen iPhone 4 was never reported to police or insurance company. Didn't want it back or replaced. Only superior feature is/was airplay, but I live fine without it when this iPad soon dies. I will miss the nosalgia about the good old early 00's look and feel of Windows Mobile / Android / iOS, but the more modern look and workflow of Windows Phone is a thing easily adapted.

That said, I think complainers here should do like Apple in this matter: shut up. Or do like Apple: don't give a sh*t. They know like we all know, iOS users take all the crap with pleasure, forget and enjoy the next demanded purchase, and that's maybe not that bad an idea. What are y'all whining about? And what for? There is no one in the other end. And they know it phases out, and in short you'll be in one of their stores, purchasing another iDevice. What could possibly change that? Facts hardly change themselves.

This is the third post I am making to this thread. I think several of you here might be overreacting. Class action suits? Scraping your iPads? Well, I know I won't get better machinery or software from the other side. After reading everything it seems to me that my iPad is running better. I followed the advice of everyone as best as I could by changing settings. I discovered I wasn't really into all those fancy details anyway. My iPad is mostly better. I am guessing they will have some fixes. It seems obvious also that we are at the tail end of "usefulness" for our 3 year old machines. I cannot complain: I have received my money's worth. I am a missionary and find I can do so much with this little tablet. I will buy one again someday. Hopefully, in a year or two getting the most out of this one as we go along. Don't overreact. Try the suggestions that Guesswhatdayitis posted.

I'm glad your iPad is "mostly better" and that you don't need "all those fancy details."

Mine is two years old, cost me $500 and was working flawlessly until September 17th. I rely on mine for work, and had intended to pass it along to my wife and buy a new one for myself. Hers is an iPad 2 with wifi (no 3g) and we both realized that the extra data would be convenient feature for her to have when we travel on business.

I could have sold hers on Craigslist to offset the cost of the new one. Now I'm out of pocket. While not a missionary, I am still honest enough to not foist a damaged (by Apple) iPad off on an unsuspecting Craigslist user, so I'll stick it back in its box and put it on a shelf, and maybe someday Apple will allow backward OS swaps.

will buy another one, as I had planned, and probably buy one for my wife down the road, but It will cost me a lot more, and someone will lose out on having been able to purchase a decent used iPad from me.

It's not a tragedy, but it's extremely hurtful to find out you have absolutely no value to Apple other than a cash cow to be milked.

Revzack ... Your comments are rather pretentious.

For those of us, and from reading the vast majority of the commenters you're not part of us, we use and depend on our iPads for more than playing BeJwelled or posting to Instagram. I'm happy you're complacent enough to be satisfied with, what the majority of this group feels is a complete an utter failure of a software upgrade. However, as there are others out there that use the iPad for more sophisticated activities please don't assume our complaints are an overreaction.

I Have attempted every suggestion that has been posted and to expect me to now turn off virtually ever function that I specifically bought an iPad for so that I could at least  be able to type an email without it freezing, shows just how completely ridiculous those saying we are overreacting are.

The facts that we are even having this discussion ... shame on you APPLE!!

YYes, we have tried changing settings, tweaking where we could. Reset EVERYTHING again? And all the work to reconfigure lost settings and data? The only support I have had is NOT from Apple, just from individuals who managed to fix %#{!¥£%#} ups because of IOS 8. And say hey, what is up with the double letter  in this forum at the begining? Have seen it several times and refuse to fix it again. Apple people, you stop whining about us complaining about what Apple screwded  up big time. Get another job Or work toward fixing it.

AAnd what IPad did you start from? I have a 2, my husband has a year new one He is OK so far. I have gone through settings up and down, even tried turNing on Background App Refresh as a last resort. Will turn it off per your suggestion, will not help. We are NOT complaining because we are stupid. Know that! Another thing, keep trying to correct my word turning and this site refuses to cooperate.

SSuggestions appreciated. I do misinterpret your message, though. Folks are frustrated for a product released that has compromised their work. Should NEVER have happened. Trust. So defiled.

M45birdy: The sie is indeed buggy- from iPad as well as desktop. Tried both Safari and Firefox and I can tell you it's the site. Should we be surprised?
