Oct 2, 2014 6:42 PM in response to pacoKASby Uncorrect,I Think there should be no workaround or downgrade or any effort from our part in this matter. I think that however the price you paid 3 years ago for your iPad2 matters to you, you should be guarenteed a seemless experience with any version that gets proposed to you. I want to buy a new iPad, but not because mine has been made obsolete by new software. Actually this situation makes me feel like not buying a new one anymore. I want a fix and I think I am owed one.
do you guys think I'm crazy?

Oct 2, 2014 7:02 PM in response to Uncorrectby M45birdy,AAgree with you also. Noticed some comments about legal action deleted also. If this SNAFU is not fixed and soon, customers will be gone forever. Get real, Apple ... And if you cannot fix it, admit your mistake. Truth!

Oct 2, 2014 7:06 PM in response to bluelemmyby Topjack,Bluelemmy , As someone else commented well said. There is a lot of truth to your comment. I don't have an ipad 2 but have an ipad 4 which is having some problems after I updated to 8.0. Do I regret updating.. you bet but that was a chance I took because like most others here want the latest and greatest. Now I will have to sit back and wait.. cross my fingers and hope Apple makes us all happy campers once again soon. For those that have apple products and on limited income I feel the most sorry for. It would be nice if apple would find some way to left those folks down grade which might be enough to buy them a bit of time so they can save up for a replacement.

Oct 2, 2014 8:12 PM in response to Topjackby ChrisPhilips,Apple apparently kept the previous version (7.1) available for about ten days, but didnt tell anyone. I could have downgraded back to 7.1 but the Apple Store at University Village in Seattle, as well as Apple CUstomer Service Escalation Lied to me.
OK- I can't turn off the boldface because of the terrible site coding, and the double caps are courtesy of Apple.
BOttom line: Apple f-ed up our iPads, and they dont care. It looks like quality control died with STeve Jobs.

Oct 3, 2014 2:08 AM in response to Topjackby bluelemmy,Yes, the downgrade is the thing. I've bitten the bullet and have a couple of pads from another maker on their way. I don't have qualms about that because I already have the maker's phone and am comfortable with its operating system. I'll wait to see if the situation improves with iOS8 before selling the iPad 2s, if not I'll sell them as 'crippled'.
The point that so many of the apologists for this 'upgrade' miss is that many are not complaining about iOS 8 as such. Can anyone name an OS maker who hasn't made a mess of an upgrade at least as bad as this one? On one of my phone's updates, the GPS functioned less well after an upgrade. These are complex items and such things will always happen.
The point was I could take it back to its previous version until the problem was fixed and use my phone as before. I accept that iOS is a step too far for my and my mother's iPad's. What I don't accept is that I am actively prevented by the maker from taking them back to their previous working condition.
I cannot begin to understanding the reason for such high-handedness but it is that that has upset me.
The mark of a well run company is not simply how good its products are but how well it picks up its mistakes. Apple products are no longer so unique that they have no competition and can treat customers with contempt. Does anyone believe that such a company didn't install iOS 8 on older machines to see how they fared? Of course they did. They just didn't care about the results it seems.

Oct 3, 2014 3:53 AM in response to bluelemmyby P. Aaron,Copy-paste function still *****. The I-Pad does not retain content when holding more than one browser tab because if you're copying & pasting from one tab to another? Forget it. Content has to be reloaded EVERY **** TIME! And, it is thus flushed away. This is very frustrating considering how simple and easy this device was to use through the years I have had it.
Apple has effectively rendered this I-Pad nearly useless. Was thinking about upgrading my I-Phone and am hedging now...just because I do not want to reward such flippant behavior.

Oct 3, 2014 3:55 AM in response to bluelemmyby Deborah464,From what I've seen on various blogs, it's not just older phones & tablets having trouble. A friend has a new iPad Air that is also reacting negatively to the system update. Turning off predictive typing restored the responsiveness of my keypad at least.

Revzack ... Your comments are rather pretentious.
For those of us, and from reading the vast majority of the commenters you're not part of us, we use and depend on our iPads for more than playing BeJwelled or posting to Instagram. I'm happy you're complacent enough to be satisfied with, what the majority of this group feels is a complete an utter failure of a software upgrade. However, as there are others out there that use the iPad for more sophisticated activities please don't assume our complaints are an overreaction.
I Have attempted every suggestion that has been posted and to expect me to now turn off virtually ever function that I specifically bought an iPad for so that I could at least be able to type an email without it freezing, shows just how completely ridiculous those saying we are overreacting are.
The facts that we are even having this discussion ... shame on you APPLE!!
Why does it bother you that the vast majority of iPad/iPod/iPhone users are not experiencing any problems?

Oct 3, 2014 4:24 PM in response to pacoKASby sparky_one,Anyone still having issues with all this bs, try this:
Start from scratch - do a restore to a new version of 8.0.2 using itunes. It will ask if you want to backup your data, do so. go through the steps (and time) of wiping the idevice clean and then restoring your data. This finally worked for me after days of trying to resolve the issues with this upgrade on an iPad 3. I will not upgrade any other devices until they get their act together.
For those of you thinking its not affecting the majority of users no matter which idevice you have, keep your negative comments to yourselves; there are far too many people having issues for this to be a small minority of users. This is a complete debacle on Apple's part and it will continue to have users look elsewhere for their needs.

Oct 3, 2014 4:27 PM in response to sparky_oneby ChrisPhilips,Didn't work for me, but good for you. Are you going to upgrade to the next version, or will you wait a few weeks?

Oct 3, 2014 4:51 PM in response to sparky_oneby mudhog,I have an iPad 3 and have tried 99% of all suggestions including the wipe and start from scratch...not even restoring from backup, but a true start from scratch. Same issues, full battery goes from 100% to 5% in hours, black screen appears when switching apps, etc...just would love to go back to 7.x so I can go back to using my iPad.

Oct 4, 2014 4:09 AM in response to pacoKASby zwadder,I had a slow Ipad as well after upgrading to ios8, in fact the iPad was nearly unusable.
First I did a complete reset (made backup first), restored the backup then did a few hard resets (press the home button and top button for a few second together). Then I disabled the background refresh as mentioned in this threat and now my Ipad is somewhat slower as on ios7 but it's usable as it should be. The fact that that there are some crashes is mostly due to the software of that app which isn't updated for ios8, most apps which have been updated for ios 8 won't crash anymore.
Upgrading to a newer version of an os will always need more system resources because a newer os can achieve more and therefore needs more hardware resources. When I upgraded to ios8 I knew that could have some issues with performance but after the tweaks the IPad is functioning very well for a three and a half year old device and for sure it will serve me for another year to come.
