Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

I went a year ago from Android devices to the Apple device because of some minor problems in Android.

After all this is a very big problem, so I switch back to Android again unless Apple gets resolved this in a hurry and do not make the same number again!

This is unsustainable and it is only arrogant companies entered in such a way!

So get your finger out Apple!

Thanks for destroying my Ipad 2 experience

I could not agree more!  Just let us go back to ios7 and move on.   Apparently Apple just does not care....?!   So, I don't either.  I'll buy a new pad... But it will not be Apple.  ITunes is about the only thing that I'll  miss - but I'll get over it.

Not sure if this is of any help but i've found that going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and going to the contacts section and setting the 'Show In App Switcher' to OFF tends to speed things up a bit, there is still some lag and still some jerkiness but there seems to be an improvement in speed. I also am not seeing as many app crashes as well

I Hope so David. As you can tell I'm quite frustrated with this but at the end of the day I like my Apple stuff and just want to go back to bring to use them as I did.  Thanks for all the advice. Fingers crossed.

I believe Apple is intentionally slowing down older iPads and 1st gen iPad minis with the iOS 8 upgrade. I guess we either buy a newer iPad or say "boo" to Apple and buy a Samsung or other Android device. Personally, I will be buying a Samsung tablet and phone.

This worked a treat, was resigned to either factory resetting or finally walking away from Apple as my iPad 2 was hideous!

Thank you so much - how did you come across this gem?

Hey, have any of you guys tried going into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings? Please note, this will reset all settings like wallpaper, wifi, passcode, etc. but will NOT erase any of your data. I would try that, alot of times that clears up issues like this. If that does not work, try doing a backup and restore. If you need help with that here is an article on how to go about that, Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings that will clear up any software issues.

YYes, tried that, restores, shutting everything off (which seems bizare that some suggest that and appear happy with the marginal return they get) And pretty much every other suggestion. Why would I shut things off?

I bought my ipad to do exactly what it was doing prior to IOS 8 so I think it's pretty ridiculous for some of these "know-it-all" commentors on here that we should stop complaining Apple and be happy with owning a paper weight.

No we do not have to continually purchase new iPads just to stay happy. It's Apples responsibility to provide solutions that do not degrade our existing performance. They can stop offing updates, that is their right and your decision then whether you want to purchase new hardware ... but they can't degrade our performance with their solutions And then fail to respond to customers complaints.

My iPad 2 64GB is used for flying. I wonder if the FAA will re-evaluate the use of iPads in the cockpit seeing the considerable operational issues that have resulted from these two IOS updates and Apples refusal to interact and rectify the problem for their customers. Pathetic customer service.

mmy shortcuts are working again  I had to disable "." Shortcuts in settings . Of course double tapping the space bar does not insert periods.

words still randomly capitalize and repeat. But my shortcuts no longer lock up the iPad so that makes me very happy.

i also discovered splitting the keyboard disables predictive text and makes shortcuts work no problem.

You need to decide if you want "." or shortcuts because its one or the other.

    VIdeos still play intermittently

    Im finding workarounds.

MY needs are pretty basic as I don't really work anymore so I can live with things for now.

same here. as I type this there is a delay in the typing. Safari crashes often, I lost my cell service. I have an all apple house and I am seriously thinking of going back to a PC based life. Very ****** at Apple.

    UPdate

    SHortcuts quit then worked.

NOw now they work with "." shortcut enabled.

PRedictive text text quit working but comes and goes

notice the delete key deletes very very slowly now.

    GUess there is no consistencY.

JUst get get lucky every now and then.

FRustrating that Apple could be so incompetent as to let basic stuff like the capitalization issue go unresolved.

Apple is selling the iPad 2 on its website, so they are functional with this iOS 8.
