Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

 

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

    @Star Traveler - Downgrading has never been an option before, but that's only because Apple won't admit it's mistakes. And, when my 1st gen iPod touch reached its end of life for upgrades, Apple didn't let people upgrade after iOS 6. This should have been the course that Apple took with iOS 8 and the iPad 2. So you can keep posting about Apple's wonderful iOS 8 and how great it works with the iPad 2, or you can face reality and QUIT POSTING!

    Apple OFFICIALLY says you can run the iOS 8 on iPad 2. Now, that's the official word, no matter what you think about it. And Apple is selling - as of TODAY - iPad 2s and they are upgradeable and operational under iOS 8 ... that's "official" and it's a "fact". That's just the way it is. We deal in facts here and what Apple officially says here.

     

    As to the "opinion" as to why Apple doesn't allow downgrades ... that's simply your opinion (which opinion I doubt anyway) and is not what Apple says.

     

    As for any bugs or fixes that need to be done ... Apple doesn't waste time apologizing ... as the BEST APOLOGY anyone can ever have is simply a "fix". Apple does "fixes" if there needs to be one. Of course, if there is a problem, it has to be analyzed, and that requires users contact Apple Support and report the problem, and then the engineers have to figure out what the necessary fix is. Apple is always doing fixes, and not "apologizing" simply because no one cares about apologies and they only care about "fixes".

     

    And lastly, not everything that "goes wrong" on a particular iOS device is a "fix" that needs to be done by Apple. Don't assume that just because there is a problem with one device or a handful of devices that this is a necessary "fix" that needs to be done. It can be as simple as some of the suggestions here on this "users helping other users" forum ... or it can be as simple as having it checked out at an Apple Store for a hardware failure or some corrupted files and a necessary reset to factory condition.

     

    As far as "Quit Posting" ... well, if that's your opinion ... you might find that my opinion is that we all would be better served if "you" simply quit posting ... :-) ...

    Perhaps what we should recommend/request Apple do in the future is to not break it down into "upgrade or not," but into "upgrade," "can't upgrade," and "can upgrade but not recommended."  The latter category would be appropriate if the resulting performance is likely to be low, and/or if the primary benefit of upgrading is ... dubious.  As an example of the latter, the health-related features of iOS 8 are of so-so value for a tablet, since, unlike a smartphone or smartwatch, you're probably not going to haul a tablet around on your workouts.  So, that consideration might increase the chances they'd give it a "not recommended" rating for iPad2.

    I don't know ... as that's adding another layer of complexity for Apple to this whold upgrade process. I think Apple should keep it to simply "it can be done technically and hardware-wise" or it can't. And just leave it at that.

     

    As for the users figuring out whether they want to do it for their machine (especially if their iOS device is nearing "end of life") ... I think just waiting and then reading up on articles addressing the subject will be good enough for them to make the decision. I just don't think Apple needs to be involved any more than it's technically workable or it's not.

    The good part of what you're suggesting is that, again, Apple wants to make these products simple, and a binary "go/no-go" is simple.  The downside though is that it's often not a pure binary decision.  I forget who it was in this conversation, but s/he said that a certain iOS 8 feature was important enough to tolerate some slow-down.  Also, what is technically "feasible" can be a matter of degree - how much slow-down is acceptable?


    Also, the hard part about looking up problems people have with a new iOS version is that it's very hard to tell whether what they're seeing is typical or not.

    I know this is a number of days after you posted this ... but just so readers know about it now ... this is no longer able to be done, as Apple quit "signing" that version. That door is absolutely closed now.

    Over the past few days, it's also started dropping my 3G service until I reboot my system.

     

    Yuck.

    I guess i missed the deadline to downgrade my iPad. It's almost like its a brick now after the update. I can try and type something and it'll take like 10 seconds before the letters show up. Some apps are unresponsive at times or i get a black screen for awhile.

    I do not consider legitimate complaints to be a gripefest. I have an ipad2 which operated perfectly well before upgrading to ios8 and ios8.0.2. My device is slow. Lost the ability to use GSM service with AT&T since upgrading. The copy and paste can only be used by rebooting after each use. Apparently the clip board only clears after powering off and rebooting. I get an occasional error within safari also. It is standard practice in software upgrades to be able to go back to a previous version of software if something doesn't go right after installing a new version. I bought this Apple product because I believed their claims of being a superior company and product. Hardware is no better than the software it runs.

    This isn't a complaint board. It's a forum that Apple put up so that "users helping other users" could give technical support for specific problems for each other. They didn't put it up to be a gathering place for complaints, but a gathering place for technical solutions. And furthermore, this forum is NOT Apple Support. Don't mistake this for Apple Support. It's not!

     

    IF you do have a "complaint" it is to be directed at APPLE itself and they have the spot to do that at. In case you don't know where to register your "complaint" ... I'll give you three links and you can pick the best one for yourself.

    I should mention one other thing here, in regards to the "standard practice" of downgrading to a previous iOS. I've been with the iOS system since the first iPhone and the day they were first released. It has NEVER been the practice of Apple, at no time since the iOS first came out to downgrade to another iOS. Although the iOS are computer-like and have many of the same functions, they are still not computer systems (as I what people had been familiar with before) and it's a completely different environment and device and infrastructure ... all the way around. The way the entire iOS infrastructure works is completely and totally different from the computer systems of the past (and even of the present). You have "expectations" that Apple NEVER designed into this new and completely different infrastructure ... from the beginning.

     

    IF ... you have a "suggestion" you want to make to Apple, this forum is not a "suggestion box" ... here is your suggestion box ...
