I would advise you downgrade back to iOS 7 as the apple servers are still allowing this. Follow the instructions here:

You'll need to use iTunes for this.
This is a lovely suggestion... If only it were possible...
Yes, I can downgrade, BUT, my backups will NOT restore. I have backed up my iPad on two different PCs via iTunes and via the cloud. And not one of those will restore. So by downgrading, I have a working iPad with nothing on it.If I am starting from scratch, I might as well go buy a new Android. Sure, I will have to buy apps over again, but it's the same amount of time to configure them on my old/restored iPad as it is for the Android.

Sep 25, 2014 9:00 AM in response to JohnMHoytby Basexperience,Alas, that's a real shame, John. I guess you'll just have to wait for the finally fixed iOS8. I'm willing to bet they're working furiously on it, this has been a real debacle, a worse release than iOS7 was.

Sep 25, 2014 9:07 AM in response to JohnMHoytby Lmaris,It is possible, I did it just fine.
lost virtually nothing, as it synched with iCloud and restored nearly everything.
but it does expose yet another Apple failure. My windows, blackberry, and android machines allow various backups, so I can restore to previous system without having to side-load and lose data.
it really is looking like Apple is in panic mode trying to pretend they are cutting edge when it is pretty clear they are rapidly being passed by others.

It's possible *for you*, and that's great, I'm really happy that you were able to successfully recover!
But, not me... THREE different backups... One done before the IOS 8 update, and two done afterwards (cloud and on another computer), fail to reload on a freshly loaded IOS 7 firmware. So yes, I'm sure it is possible, for some people. And impossible for me. I have tried several times. I spent 4.5 hours on it two days ago, and 2 hours yesterday.

Sep 25, 2014 9:29 AM in response to Localboy56by Bridlad,My iPad 2 is now barely usable after iOS 8 upgrade.
It runs so slowly,
locks up,
battery lasts hours rather than days.
Internet is so slow, and downloads take forever!
that damned predictive text that doesn't just change a word, but half a sentence.
how on earth do I restore my iPad 2, which is out of warranty, to iOS 7.1.2 ?
please, please, before I go mad and trash the thing.
ios 8 is the worst update, ever!

Sep 25, 2014 10:37 AM in response to Bridladby Localboy56,Macworld’s Chris Breen has an excellent article on how to revert to iOS 7
The website RedmondPie has a list of links to iOS 7.1.2
http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-7.1.2-for-iphone-ipad-direct-download-lin ks/
It took awhile but my iPad 2 is now fully functional again on OS 7 and snappy as ever. Just make sure you get the right firmware download for your exact iPad 2 model.

Sep 25, 2014 10:43 AM in response to Localboy56by Basexperience,Nice work, Localboy.
We need to get the word out there to people - that they don't have to suffer and can get back to a stable, usable system by downgrading, without risk. I've suggested this as at least a temporary option to others who have iOS8 issues and some people have said it'll brick your device and it contravenes the Apple terms of service! If it's possible via iTunes then Apple are giving you the facility to do it - it can't be against terms of service if it's a given feature of iTunes!
So, spread the word, let's roll back as many devices as possible with issues on iOS8 to 7.1.2 while we still can!

Sep 25, 2014 11:10 AM in response to pacoKASby oscargag,I am experiencing all sorts of issues after the update to iOS 8 as I detailed on a previous post. The latest issue that I am experiencing its a total crash of iOS. I had my iPad in front on me on the desktop and all of the sudden the screen turned black and the Apple logo appeared on the middle. On anther instance I went to use my iPad, I pressed on the home button and nothing happened. It was frozen again.
This is annoying. The worst iOS update ever from Apple.

Sep 25, 2014 11:36 AM in response to pacoKASby GuessWhatDayItIs,Hello,
I did a reset (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings) and it helped. The performance is a little better, but not like before. After I did a reset, apps were quicker to launch and browsing was much faster.

Sep 25, 2014 11:38 AM in response to oscargagby outback1,Yes, I have to say...this is the worst performance I have seen since my purchase into Apple which is recent this last few years, so i am a newbie. Even so after being into Windows based, I don't see myself going back there....but it would make me think twice should Apple now come down to not providing the past level of excellence. It remains to be seen......

Be careful giving advice that rolling back is totally safe (Without Risk). I now have a confirmed case of one of my client's totally bricking their iPad 3 when restoring. Don't know how this will play out, it's under warranty so they are heading to the store with it. It's in a loop, recovery mode doesn't work.
What caused this? The client asked me about why their iPad kept rebooting after upgrading (spontaneous reboots) and I told them it was a bad update and that Apple had even pulled it last I checked. They attempted to restore to IOS 7 and during the restore that is what happened.

Sep 25, 2014 1:15 PM in response to JohnMHoytby Basexperience,I'm guessing you told them about DFU mode and they couldn't get the device into it?

Reboot loop.... apple logo, black screen, apple logo....
And to top it off, just saw my nephew posted that his iPad has gone to a blue screen and he can't get it to respond. Bad day in Apple land

Sep 25, 2014 2:14 PM in response to JohnMHoytby outback1,Watching and listening....I have decided to sit tight and wait it out here....I can live with what I have at the moment...I do not like the process of going backwards to the old operating system...it just seems messy to me and would cause such issues, but again, what do I know? Apple seems to have the message, and it seems to be getting louder and clearer...a mess to say the least....rather than making my iPad more of a mess, which I think in my small mind it might, trying to go backwards....it will be solved.....any issues out there with the new iPhone 6??? or is this only privy to the older iPads?
