Oct 15, 2014 7:44 AM in response to Star Travelerby RattyCube, now now kids, play nice!! Or are we ready for pistols at dawn??
As Star Traveler has clearly stated, this is a forum for users to share experiences, tips, and potential fixes. Apple staff don't and won't appear here in an official capacity.
.
if you want to deal with apple directly then contact themApple Support
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
now back to the topic. if you are still having issues try the following
- reset network settings (works for quite a few)
- back up and restore (it worked for me and many others)
- Or throw your IPad away/bury it in the garden for future generations to find/put it in a bottle and cast it out to sea!allot of people are reluctant to do a back up and restore because its "time consuming". Mine took about 20mins. I didn't lose a thing.
some might take longer some might take less, it's pot luck.one way I was told to look at the issue, is that update upon update followed by a new IOS on top etc will seriously affect the processor speed and functionality. what the restore essentially does is clean the memory to a factory state , and then installs the new IOS leaving out all the past updates and old IOS.
Yes the new IOS is buggy but that will always be the situation, but my IPad now works very smoothly compared to the prehistoric brick I had for a few weeks.

I find this extremely insulting. You act as if the people here (myself included) are too stupid to fix our problems.
Honestly, I think everyone who is "complaining" is just looking for answers. I honestly feel everyone has given it their best effort.
Tips have been given, and the people here have followed them. Some have seen improvements! That includes me... I have seen some improvement.
But just because we haven't seen everything magically fixed by a reset doesn't mean are idiots. There are problems that exist that are beyond our ability to correct with the steps given.
One that persists no matter what I try is the copy/paste issue. Please, help me resolve this. If I am not smart enough, then tell me how I might go about fixing it. Explain like I am 5 years old then.
Really, people are not complaining just to complain. We're doing our best to find any cure to the things that ail us
I still experience slow/jerky typing.
I still experience copy/paste not functioning correctly.I still experience apps like Safari closing out.
I still have note problems. Is it less frequent than before I applied processes given to me in this forum, or via the geniuses? YES.
Is it as good as the iPads ran on iOS 7x? Not even half as good.
But we keep trying anything we can. Only to be called "stupid".

I thought it was a good repartee to the user handle ... "RememberWhenAplWasNum1" ... :-) ...
Honestly, I think everyone who is "complaining" is just looking for answers. I honestly feel everyone has given it their best effort.
Tips have been given, and the people here have followed them. Some have seen improvements! That includes me... I have seen some improvement.
If you want solutions, simply state a problem, and work the solutions which are suggested. If those "user suggestions" don't work ... keep in mind that the users are NOT Apple, and thus, you cannot "expect" solutions from them, but you can be pleasantly surprised when you get solutions that work. If you want to get "support" for products ... GO TO APPLE SUPPORT which is where they have it.
I've already shown how to "set things up" with your iPad to get the best results from Apple Support, so follow that. Others have followed it and have succeeded in their troubleshooting, or they have succeeded with Apple Support helping them. Several people have had their iPads replaced by Apple (as reported by users here) which indicates that they had HARDWARE PROBLEMS.
But just because we haven't seen everything magically fixed by a reset doesn't mean are idiots. There are problems that exist that are beyond our ability to correct with the steps given.
I guess that also means that just because users have corrupted files and messed up systems that have caused problems doesn't mean that we have to "RememberWhenAplWasNum1" ... it is Number 1 ... just like the fact that users are not stupid when they have problems show up on their iPad ... :-) ...
AND ... when things are beyond a user's experience and expertise, that's when you use Apple Support and the Apple Genius!
Really, people are not complaining just to complain. We're doing our best to find any cure to the things that ail us
I've seen some who seek no solution and simply state one complaint after another, state what other product they are going to buy elsewhere, state why Apple is "doing this to them" etc. and etc. In no way does that fit into the "Terms of Use" for this forum. Stating the problem for purposes of soliciting other users' solution is what this forum is about. And then, when one can find no solution from other users, that is NOT a "cue" to start a GRIPE-FEST because other users are NOT APPLE SUPPORT. You go to Apple Support!
But we keep trying anything we can. Only to be called "stupid".
You must be referring to some other poster, because you won't find a post of mine telling a user he is stupid.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far to try to rectify your issues.
Thanks

Oct 15, 2014 3:16 PM in response to Skooty Alanby Star Traveler,Have you done that reset to the factory default condition, and without reloading your backup just yet? I believe I reposted that (in this thread) yesterday. If you can't find it, just let me know and I'll repost it for you.

Oct 15, 2014 3:51 PM in response to pacoKASby Quentin Stafford-Fraser,AH, this is interesting - I think i've had a noticeable speedup, and I'm not sure what, exactly, caused it, but here's what I was doing, in case anyone manages to replicate it. Firstly, I should mention that I had already done many of the things discussed here - removing keyboards, disabled background processing, reducing motion, etc, and they had helped, but my ipad was still only just usable.
So I thought I would try a factory reset and restore, but first I needed to back up the iPad to my laptop. It used to be backed up to my iMac, but I'd sold that a couple of months ago, so there was no recent backup.
I plugged it into my laptop, started a backup and was told that the itunes library was synced with another machine; did I want to delete it and sync with this machine instead? I said yes.
Then I read that if you choose to encrypt your backups, passwords from the iPad are then also backed up, which makes life a lot easier after a restore. So I enabled that on my Macbook too, and did another backup. Then I had to go and do other things, so never got around to resetting and restoring.
But when I unplugged and tried using the iPad, I found it was a lot faster. Not iOS7 fast, but almost, and certainly no longer in the barely-usable category (As evidenced by the fact I'm using it to write this post!) Let's see if it lasts. In the meantime, here are some thoughts:
- Perhaps the backlog of things which hadn't been backed up after a long delay was slowing it down
- Perhaps it was trying to contact the old iMac for wifi syncing and failing repeatedly
- Perhaps resetting the itunes library had a big effect - maybe just freeing up space, since the laptop has much less music actually on it than the iMac had, so the ipad now mostly just has links to download from iTunes Match. (I now have about 14G of my 64G free)
- Perhaps some part of this process tidied up some stuff and allowed the earlier optimisations I'd tried to have more effect
- Perhaps it will grind to a halt again after a while and I'll be disappointed.
But at the moment it looks good, so I thougt I'd share what I'd done before I forgot it. Hope it helps someone!

Oct 15, 2014 4:32 PM in response to Quentin Stafford-Fraserby ToyotaRick,My iPad 2 16GB wifi bought new Feb 2014. Only use it for web surfing and Yahoo mail. Ios8 caused problems, skipped 8.0.1 was out of town but quickly put 8.0.2 on upon return. Still had same problems as everyone, called Apple. Uploaded logs twice as escalation requested, nothing new except the tech had me turn off background app refresh, location services etc which helped a little with battery draining. All apps are the default except I downloaded iBooks ans 1 book. No personal data so I did the reset all and erase but no help. Saw other posts to try reload of iOS 8.0.2 thru iTunes so I did that and set up as a new iPad but still have battery draining quicker that 7.1 and Safari locks ups on the progress bar it may go about an inch then freeze. But the worst part is Yahoo mail and unable to display the mail although I see the inbox. Every so often it works fine, other times I close, force close and no help. When it locks up it may recover on its own in 5-10 minutes or less, but other times nothing. I still have an open case and will be calling the tech back in the morning but on the
aart call he recommended switch browsers to Puffin or Chrome so appears that Apple knows they broke our iPads but when will they fix this. I will never but another Apple product if this does not get resolved, but what really Torks me is somes of these replies say to setup your iPad And reinstall ios which I have decided be several times. With one book in iBooks, several bookmarks in Safari - no data - nada - zero - zilch and 12.1 of 12.9 GB free and being told to switch browsers I'd say that it's a Safari /Apple debacle that Apple needs to address instead of worrying about selling their new iPads.
BTW this iPad worked great since purchased in Feb -it''s not hardware or free space or apps it is the iOS update that Apple pushed out to us without warning.

Similar to my story..... I do have an update though. One of my clients was able to get a new iPad from Verizon today after battling this for near a month.
She reports that it came with iOS 7x on it and it is running fantastic. She only had a few apps, so she left it in its barebones stock setup (no updates) and just installed the apps and downloaded her iTunes songs. She is as happy as a clam.
So, maybe that could help someone else, if they bought an iPad from Verizon or AT&T, they could potentially keep visiting until they get another iPad, which does solve the problems 100%. Fortunately for her, the copy-and-paste works too, there's nothing I have found that addresses this with 8x.

Oct 15, 2014 8:10 PM in response to pacoKASby heartmyipad,Hey I updated my ipad2 to the new one yesterday and everything was slow! I tried going into settings, general, reset. I chose the first one "Reset All Settings." It took a few minutes but in the end it was working great again ! I hope it works for you before you do a hard reset and loose all that time restoring from a backup.

Unfortunately, you cannot revert to iOS7 ice you have updated to iOS8.
