Oct 20, 2014 12:07 PM in response to pacoKASby PvdM@Sthlm,Since upgrading to IOS8, FaceTime does not work as well anymore... My parents and I both have an iPad 2 so they could FaceTime with the grandkids (as so beautifully displayed in the Apple ads )... but that has become slightly frustrating. Internet speed checks also show large drop in achieved downloading speeds. Whilst they are still great on my Macbook. I hope this is not Apples way of getting us to upgrade to iPad air 2, even though it does look very nice. I understand after a while things get obsolete...but I have only had the iPad for 2.5 years.. Ps Same thing with my iPhone 4s.. I am downloading IOS8.1 at the moment, hopefully that will improve things.

Oct 20, 2014 12:13 PM in response to PvdM@Sthlmby Star Traveler,No, it's not Apple trying to get you to get a newer iPad, because Apple is still selling the iPad 2 on their online store! And, Apple also offers buyers - today - a two year extended warranty on it, so they're planning on keeping that iPad 2 (that is bought today) running for two more years ... :-) ...
Do a reset to factory default with your iTunes program. Always make sure you do your backups first. And after you do that you'll also get the NEW revision today with the bug fixes ... iOS 8.1!

Oct 20, 2014 1:29 PM in response to PvdM@Sthlmby Dan_Scott,PvdM@Sthlm,
There's a big difference between something just going obsolete, and a perfectly functioning product becoming obsolete because of a "Software Update." (But, kudos, your taking the "update" into obsolescence very well). Hopefully you can get a good deal on an upgrade.

as stated before, Star Traveler, please stop propagandising for apple!
Couldn't agree more.

Oct 20, 2014 1:45 PM in response to pacoKASby xbfc,Just upgraded to 8.1 on my iPad 2. I figured it couldn't hurt since my iPad has been crippled anyway. After upgrading, it seems a large majority of the performance issues are now gone. There's still a bit of lag here and there, but not nearly as much as there used to be (example: the gestures work, but it takes a second or two, but that's better than 10-20 seconds or not at all). Of course, I'm just one use case. I'd still suggest waiting for a few more confirmations before taking the plunge.

Oct 20, 2014 1:57 PM in response to xbfcby kkid311,I agree. iOs8.1 is betters than before, but I still hate it. I still feel like my iPad is only minimally functional, which is better than it being completely useless like before. I really wish I could revert to iOS7. =(

Oct 20, 2014 2:00 PM in response to Star Travelerby JSOT,Has anybody else upgraded to 8.1. I upgraded to 8 but reverted back to ios7 after my iPad was extremely slow and sluggish (ipad2). Will like to upgrade to ios8.1 but will like to know what has been the experience of others. thanks

Oct 20, 2014 2:13 PM in response to Star Travelerby petercu,I tried lots of suggestions to improve terrible ios8 performance on my 3 year old iPad2, nothing worked UNTIL I followed the instructions in this article and did a hard reset. As by magic problem solved
http://www.devicegarage.net/diy-repair-blog/fix-slow-ios8-on-older-iphones
This does take time, but well worth it. Not only did the performance improve dramatically, I also got a lot of storage back. I guess any computer after several inplace OS upgrades and three years of hard usage will appreciate a reinstall - my iPad2 most certainly did :-)
