Good to hear you have made progress and found a solution.
Could I just check something with you? Did you restore your apps from an iCloud backup or go to the App Store and download each app again?

Reset Network settings.
This was the main contributor in speeding up web browsing. I don't know why.
Be careful to switch back to WiFi if your were on it, because doing this defaults to Cellular. And you'll have to put your password in again, so make sure you know it before resetting.
Turn off everything that does back tasks, like bluetooth, and untick Spotlight for everything, except perhaps 'Apps' because that one is quite useful and doesn't internally update until you change the apps on your device.
This is a hunch because every OS upgrade in the history of computers is slower and clunkier than the last, and the latest uses multi-threaded tasks to take advantage of the new processors, which will also cause older computers to stutter and jerk about as tasks take over the whole system momentarily.
However, saying that, Apple know the limitations and peel back OS consumption on the iPad 2, but as others have said, Apple don't care about anything more than thee years old.

I went to the app store and looked in my purchased apps. I then selected the apps i wanted downloading again. I got rid of quite a lot of apps i had and was not using anymore ( saved space and time).
we have also an Ipad Mini 2 and we tried upgrading to 8.1 and restoring a backup. That did not work, then we tried a clean install and the Ipad also works flawlessly. The same is happening with the Iphone 5, we restored a backup and we are having tons of issues. We will try a clean upgrade tonight.

Nov 1, 2014 11:56 AM in response to pacoKASby JohnMHoyt,It's been a while and I wanted to follow-up with everything that I have gone through with my own iPad 2, iPad3 and iPad minis since I last posted. It also applies to almost 200 clients which my business serves.
Originally, I was having extremely slow response (lag) on these iPads after the upgrade to 8.0.0, then 8.0.1, then 8.0.2. We had tried everything. We had technicians and customers calling Apple, going to see the "geniuses". We scoured forums, we tried everything suggested.
Some of the problems were:
- Extremely slow to open apps (safari, mail, etc).
- Stock apps hanging for seconds at a time.
- Typing lagging several seconds behind the input.
- Crashes of stock apps, closing out at random
- Crashes of stock apps during input - a lot of these.
- Complete hang of the OS for several seconds.
- Complete shutdown on the system - spontaneous reboot.
- Lost notes.
- Clipboard (copy/paste) totally hosed - random clips appearing.
These were across the board on the entire line of iPad 2, iPad3 and iPad mini. Everyone I encountered was experiencing various levels of these...
The good news is - after 8.1 came out, this fixed a number of the issues. Reloading as instructed here, also helped.
The bad news is - even after all attempted changes, help from the geniuses, help from apple, the problems have remained.
How did we get around them? Many were able to buy new iPad2 devices from online. Refurbs actually. Or via their local Verizon or AT&T store. These came with iOS 7x on them - and with that version of the OS, none of the problems existed.
Word of advice - if you obtain one of these devices with iOS 7x, you may wish to not upgrade it to any version of iOS 8x at this time. Why? Because those who have (myself included) as an experiment, immediately saw the same issues we had on our original devices. As recently as last week, we received a refurb iPad 2 with 7 on it. So hopefully they have some left. I have not heard of anyone buying a refurb yet that had iOS 8x pre-loaded on it, but that could change at any time.
That's the only way you will get the clipboard working again at this point..Good luck...

Tell ALL clients that if they update the OS then they will be disciplined for outrageous misuse of company hardware.
You wouldn't update an OS on a desktop computer now, would you? All **** would break out from the IT department!

I only wish it were as simple as that. My company provides outsourced IT services for small and medium sized businesses. All told, we are responsible for about 1000 servers and and maybe 10,000 total devices including iPads, iPhones, etc.
These businesses usually have no in-house IT support. They consist of a bunch of BYOD users when it comes to mobile. We have zero input, other than to make recommendations. So immediately when any update comes out for Android or Apple, my guys are to load it, play with it and if anything is noticed that could affect the clients, we send out a mass email and give our input. It is up to them to follow or not follow what we suggest.
In this case, we recommended that the users NOT update their iOS devices. Hundreds did any way. And that's fine. Until the phone starts ringing with a lot of people experiencing the same problems.

Oh well, lets hope the programmers at Apple can debug their code, and quickly.

8.1 and total reloads got these devices back to about 75% of where they were prior to 8x. Crossing my fingers for an 8.1.1 soon that fixes the clipboard problem. That is one that I have found zero fixes for, and that is the most important thing for a lot of my clients (attorneys and paralegals are the biggest complainers about that). *sigh*

We did not "find" iOS 7 - that is no longer a viable option. We found replacement devices. New (Refurbished) iPad 2s from the Apple store were purchased, some from Verizon and AT&T. In some cases, Verizon and AT&T were convinced by business users to just swap out the iPads....
The replacements came with iOS 7 on them. Problems 100% solved and the users are happy.
Be warned though - we tested an out of the box iPad we purchased from Apple that came with iOS 7, by putting iOS 8.1 on it - it exhibited the same issues many are experiencing with their upgraded tablets. Don't be fooled into thinking that finding a refurb tablet and loading 8x on it will solve your problems, in our experience it will not at this point. You will still experience increased overall and keyboard/input lag over the 7 device, and you will have no reliable clipboard...
Why do my clients want older iPads? Besides iOS 7 being on them (at last we checked) - they have the connectors they need for certain devices such as dictation and control applications. They don't want to use adapters and upgrade their equipment just yet. -

But Apple are not interesting in 'old' stuff (3 years), it's quite evident with the XCode development SDK availability on OSX.
