Hey JohnMhoyt, I read some of the other comments you've on written here and you're so dead-right. iOS 8 on iPad 2 is the bgigest fubar, if I've ever seen one and 50 pages worth of people complaining is even worse!

I wish this were not the case.. It's something so many of us are fighting with every single day.
Today I took a friend of mine (not a client this time) back to a completely stock and fresh load of 8.1. Zero Apps other than what comes on it. Turned off everything from motion to every single background update, etc. He says it is MUCH MUCH better (he's been dealing with the slowness for several weeks now and was very frustrated). Anyway, he's back to maybe 75% of what it was with iOS 7x on it. Just stinks that we had to take it all the way back and disable everything to get that much performance back...
He's still saying the clipboard doesn't work (well known bug), and safari takes a long time to load pages. Another issue he has that many others do too is that if you open two pages in safari, go the second tab, browse on that, then back to the first, it has to reload the entire page each time you open that first tab.
The trick for some is to leave the first tab open, but don't use it.. Put the page you open most frequently on the 2nd tab, then never go back to the first time. You won't have to wait for the load.... I can't find any other work-around for that.

Nov 4, 2014 8:19 PM in response to JohnMHoytby rahulfrommurrieta,Well, the issue with the tab reloading every time you switch back to it can be somewhat fixed by going to settings, Safari, and turning off "open new tabs in background." But I am sure you tried that.
Anyway, I will look you up after a new update.

Nov 5, 2014 8:54 AM in response to Warmac9999by Fettucini45,Does Apple read any of these messages? A lot of people are frustrated about the iOS 8 update having ruined their ipads. If there's no official response then it confirms the update is designed to make users buy new hardware. Pretty bad for a product I purchased less than 2 years ago. Think I'll stear clear of Apple for my next purchase and go with Android.

Nov 5, 2014 9:01 AM in response to pacoKASby Zotlerg,The iPad 2 is not a slow computer, and it should be able to fly through what appears to be simple 2D user interface problems.
I sometimes think Apple do this in their code, just to make us yield to upgrading:-
if (compID == iPad2)
{
wait();
}

No ... Apple has not set up this forum as an "official channel" to contact Apple or to use it for Apple's official customer support. SO ... your "disillusionment" at Apple not reading these messages here stems solely from your own MISUNDERSTANDING of what this forum is. It is solely for "users helping other users" for tech support issues that the user can implement completely by themselves.
If such a solution is not found from another fellow user here, then you always have the OFFICIAL APPLE SUPPORT that you can always go to at any time. That is where you will have Apple hear you and where you get an Official Response!
... it confirms the update is designed to make users buy new hardware.
Since you have already exhibited absolutely NO UNDERSTANDING of how this forum is set up and what it is for, you have extended that MISUNDERSTANDING to an idea which is solely a product of your own mind that Apple is forcing you to upgrade to another machine. That sort of thing might be true of another company, but it's certainly not true of Apple in this instance ... BECAUSE ... Apple is currently selling the iPad 2 model TODAY on its online store site and offers a TWO YEAR APPLECARE CONTRACT with it, which means that Apple fully well intends to support that iPad 2 model for at least another two years!
Don't try to MISLEAD OTHERS on the basis of your MISUNDERSTANDING and IMAGINARY CONCEPTS that you have inside your head!

Nov 5, 2014 11:51 AM in response to Fettucini45by MichelPM,Here's an article from ArsTechnica on an upcoming release from Apple to finally address iPad 2 and iPhone 4 issues with iOS 8.
If this update addresses many of the iOS 8 issues on the iPad 2, it should automatically fix the issues for iPad 3 owners, as well.

But wait... I thought there weren't any performance problems?
I'm excited. Hopefully it will put an end to the longest month of totally uselessness and frustration! Please oh please....

Nov 6, 2014 5:05 AM in response to pacoKASby West-East,I have an appointment at a Genius Bar tomorrow to have them look at my iPad 2. I have tried everything mentioned in these forums to get it to work smoothly. The biggest problem is Safari lagginess, loading pages, scrolling a page. Chrome is worse. Am I wasting my time and gas going to the Genius Bar? What hurts is I can't even sell this iPad working like it is. Unfortunately I think the word is getting around that ios 8 is a killer on an iPad 2. When it was running iOS 7 it worked like a charm.

Nov 6, 2014 5:14 AM in response to JohnMHoytby West-East,There also a video out there comparing 8.1 to 8.1.1 on an iPhone 4. Side-by-side, 2 phones, no change in performance. I am not hopeful.
-
Nov 6, 2014 9:15 AM in response to West-Eastby MichelPM,Since Apple just seeded developers with iOS 8.1.1, I am dubious whether those videos are legit or not .
iOS and OS X developers are under NDAs that are supposed to prevent them for posting anythng about pre-release OS upgrades/updates.
Plus, developers work with Apple to report issues while they are testing updates of their applications under new updates/upgrades from Apple.
So, you really need to wait until the official release of this next update to really know if Apple and developers have addressed all or most of the issues plaguing older, qualified iDevices.
If still no joy on this update, I will still be waiting this out until Apple finally gets the issues sorted.
My iPad 3 may stay on iOS 7.1.2 for a lot longer period of time and maybe not upgrade, at all.
I am a user who does not just jump immediately to upgrade/update my computer OSes just because Apple send me a notification to do so.
With major system OSes, I am NOT an early adopter.

Nov 6, 2014 1:00 PM in response to Star Travelerby Fettucini45,I think it's very unlikely that Apple is unaware of the issues caused by ios8 for iPad 2 users. I'm sure any large company would be interested to read the feedback of their products!
Also, are the ipad 2's they're selling now the same speed as they would have been a couple of years ago? or updated faster models?
and about your response to Apple updating software to make hardware slower, this has a lot of truth to it. Apple is known for doing this - if they wanted people to be happy with the older hardware models they could make it much easier to switch between different compatible iOS.

Apple le is NOT unaware of all the Tech Support issues that are brought to them through their Official Apple Support channels. For those who don't know, the links follow ...

Apple IS INTERESTED in FEEDBACK, which is why they have put up the OFFICIAL FEEDBACK link ...
Product Feedback

They are the very same model, no changes!
... and about your response to Apple updating software to make hardware slower, this has a lot of truth to it. Apple is known for doing this ...
It's a natural progression in the computer industry. As hardware becomes more capable and faster, software is able to do more and take advantage of the increased power. If Apple doesn't stay ahead of the curve in computing power and more features that demand more power ... Apple's competitors will. There's no grand conspiracy here, other than the conspiracy to stay ahead of your competitors and sell more of your own units ... :-) ...
if they wanted people to be happy with the older hardware models they could make it much easier to switch between different compatible iOS.
Apple blocks hardware from upgrading when they determine the hardware cannot handle newer software. That's why the first generation of iPad is now blocked. IPad 2 is still able to handle the power deminds of iOS 8. However, I suspect Apple will block the iPad 2 model from going to iOS 9. That's how Apple protects their customers from running software it won't handle, like with the first iPad now. That is SOON TO COME with iPad 2, as Apple is looking out for iPad 2 owners.

Nov 6, 2014 1:38 PM in response to Star Travelerby Zotlerg,Oh come on, I've used computers from the late 80s that had windows and a 20 MHz chip! And they could easily draw a smooth floating window, and I can type into a text area without it pausing for 5-10 seconds.
The iPad 2 has a dual core 1000 Mhz chip with a GPU, so why the **** is it completely stalling on iOS 8 ? And with only one thing loaded at a time.
OSs should run in the background, as just a shell with which to give common interfaces for software, NOT sit there on the CPU like a monstrous leviathan!
