Q: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load  very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

 

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

    Then it is most likely the device and not the iOS.

    It has Mac version and PC Version. After you download it and iTune at your computer. Then open Macgo iPhone Cleaner  and itune. At last, connect your iPad2 and it will list the junk file automatically. You could choose the files to delete. And I noticed that Macgo iPhone Cleaner PC Version has a giveaway now.

    I believe I found the optimum combination to make my iPad2 as good as before, maybe not 100% but at least 80% of what it used to be.

     

    For those who upgraded to iOS 8.1.1 but still facing sluggish and freezing issue, this may help. Even those who do not wish to upgrade to iOS 8.1.1 but want to get a much better performance, this could help as well.

     

    1.4GB of free space is required to upgrade to iOS 8.1.1,  As such, I was forced to delete some files. Previously only a few hundreds MB of free space available.

     

    Guess what, I noticed at least 50% of speed improvements after I got 1GB of free space, even before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.1

     

    Once I upgrade to iOS 8.1.1, I got at least 80% performance improvement.

     

    Previously in iOS7, a few hundreds of MB(or even less than 100 mb) is good enough for smooth performance and speed. I believe in IOS 8, a minimum of 1GB is required.

     

    I am happy to get back my 'stolen' iPad2. I know how frustrated using a sluggish iPad2 that keep freezing, feel like smashing it onto the wall.

     

    I guess Apple did test on iPad2 before iOS8 release and did not notice any performance issue simply because the tested device has plenty of GBs left. Apple does not realize iPad2 users has a choking amount of apps and data, with almost no free space available.

     

    So guys, try to make at least 1GB of free space on your iPad2. Please give your feedback if this work for you.

     

    If it works, I guess it is about time for Apple to give extra caution/statement on the upgrade to iOS8:-

    "Older device need at least 1GB of free space for optimum speed and performance."

     

    But I still notice some issue when downloading or upgrading apps. It is slow and sluggish when the apps is in the installing phase. The screen may freeze and the installing take ages. But I can live with it because you're not installing a new app everyday.

    What perfotmanve issues, Apple said there weren't any it was  our imagination.

     

    OH wait the new update says it corrects performance issues with the ipad2 !   That can't be right. Can it?

     

    maybe Star Traveler would like to comment on this please. I notice you have been quiet on here since Apples official line contradicts all the garbage spouted by some on here.

    Yes right. We all just imagined the upgrade to IOS 8 ruined our ipad2.

    I recently called with Apple holland but they weren't aware of any specific ipad2 issues. He had two tips for me after I send some logging to him. Facebook was the main troublemaker and I should reinstall the network. If it wasn't ok then there definitely was a hardware issue. NOT!!!

    This looked a bit better for a while but unfortunately this wax wishful thinking. So I decided to do the update to,8.1.1. I cannot yet confirm that all issues have been solved, but the speed looks better with less crashes. Copy / paste looks also better. Only battery use isn't as it should be. That was also an issue I believe.

    For now I keep my fingers crossed.

    I'm glad that works. In case you need to do a "clean system install" later on sometime, to give you a new system (which that procedure you did ... won't do, the following is the way to do that, plus a troubleshooting methodology, too.

     

    Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!

     

    First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.

     

    Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.

     

    On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.

     

    This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

    After upgrading to 8.1.1 on my iPad 2 (32Gb) I would say I got back about 75-80% of the pre-iOS 8 performance.    This is a big improvement, although I still notice some sluggishness with a few operations.

    Dunno if you have been following my "whining" on here since the beginning, but....   I have an update.

     

    As we had NOTHING to lose (not like anything was going to perform worse than it was with 8.1), we have updated all 27 devices that we have for our family and business (I've picked up a few extras that clients just gave to us as they upgraded)... This includes iPad 2, 3, and mini's.

     

    Without a question - each device is performing far better than with 8.0.0, .1, .2 or 8.1.  I am going to guestimate that we have close to 90% of the speed back in comparison the same devices running 7x.  This is do-able.

     

    I have not had a lot of time to check the other bugs other than the slowness, crashing/hanging apps, and input issues, but the speed is far better.

    Browsing has just almost returned to 7x speeds.

     

    At this time I am going to recommend to all my clients who have issues (We have 413 current open tickets for slow/buggy iThings!) to go ahead and install the 8.1.1 update as it is certainly better.

     

    I did not experience any additional data loss as did with the 8.0.x and 8.1 updates.

     

    Thank you to Apple for FINALLY getting a few of the most blatant problems at least closer to resolved.  At least *my* life will be a little better.

    Hopefully my clients are going to be happy too!

    I do believe that was meant as sarcasm, because a couple users on this forum insisted that there was no problem, that millions of devices were working properly, and it turns out that there was enough of a problem for Apple to release a "fix" for the one person that was having problems.
