Q: iPhone 6 Bluetooth issue

I can't pair my iPhone 6 with the audio unit of my 2009 Acura. The unit does not even show up under pairable devices. Called the dealer and was told those head units are not updatable, I.e, the firmwear is fixed. WTH! Does Apple expect me to buy a new car every time I get a new iPhone?

C'mon Apple! This is a basic feature that lots of  people need. I can't comprehend how this could have slipped through the QC cracks! I mean, surely the engineers that worked on this project drive cars equipped with Bluetooth! Did not one of them experience connectivity problems? That folks are struggling with this issue is a bloody shame!

I did the exact same thing!!

It appears that if you purchase a new phone or update to iOS 8 the device still thinks its the old phone or software. I had the same issue with my 2014 Toyota Camry and I fixed it by doing the following:

Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Once you do this on your iPhone it deletes all the devices and settings that were previously loaded. You have to reset the bluetooth device otherwise it will attempt to use the previous settings rather than the newest on. Pair the phone and the device up again and it will recognize it as a new phone rather than one it previously remembered. This should fix the problem on most devices as I know it fixed it on my car.

After a day or so, it reverted back to the inability to make calls from the phone in the car. Music continued to play through the BT and the phone stayed paired. So reset all settings was just a temporary fix. I did not want to restore as knew so I decided to wait for a fix. I read somewhere that this problem may be due to having multiple devices across a single iCloud account, handoffs, etc. Which is my situation. I only have been using iCloud to sync contacts and iCal after Apple removed the ability to sync through USB/iTunes. Now that they restored that ability I decided to sign out of iCloud after exporting archives of my iCal and contacts. I removed previous pairings and paired again. Everything seems to be working fine. Even after multiple syncs and restarts with the phone. I did not sign back into iCloud. I exported my calendars and the imported them back into "on my mac". Imported my contacts archive. I use a thunderbolt drive to backup everything else. I hope there is a fix that will allow everything to work like it did before.

If you log out of iCloud then you turn off find my iPhone function. So what is the point of having find my iPhone function then? Might as well give your phone away now. If multiple devices is the issue then why the **** am I keep buying Apple stuff? Both of my kids have iPad Air, my mom and mother in law both have iPad 3, my wife have iPhone 3, 4and 5 and also a iPad mini, I have iPhone 3,3GS,4, 5 and 6 and iPot touch 3rd 4th 5th gen, oh and not to mention an old *** 1st gen iPad. Am I a loyal customer to Apple? I try to think so. What a joke with this blue tooth issue, I am getting sick of it.

This has remained the only work around and has been ok for a week. If I reboot though I have to go through the steps again.... Don't reboot

    FYI

    • 1) Log out of icloud on the iphone – SETTINGS, ICLOUD, SIGN OUT (AT BOTTOM)
    • 2) Delete car/headset from iphone – SETTINGS, BLUETOOTH, SELECT DEVICE,  FORGET THIS DEVICE
    • 3) Reset network connections – SETTINGS, GENERAL, RESET, RESET NETWORK SETTINGS
    • 4) Delete iphone from car memory
    • 5) Restart phone
    • 6) Pair to car/headset as normal
    • 7) Log back into icloud to use icloud features

Apple now need to step up as this is clearly an issue as my Iphone5 ios8 works perfectly...

    Sort it...

I am having the same problem in my Volkswagen. On my iphone 5 i never had an issue with my phone connectivity to my car even when I updated it to ios8. Since I got my iphone 6 I have had nothing but problems. I even had the phone replaced (because i bent it. wish I was kidding but it happened to me and it was in my pocket with out a case). Anyway, I got it replaced wondering if it was a hardware issue and it wasn't. It still doesn't work and the update to 8.0.2 didn't help either. I can stream music to my car and other devices but I can't do use my hands free phone anymore. Very very annoying. Apple please fix this issue. I hope its on your radar enough to fix this with a software update. Very unhappy with this issue.

The bottom line is that Apple needs to acknowledge that this is a software bug, and then just let people know they'll release a fix in the next update. It's clearly a hardware problem. My 5s that was running iOS8 connected just fine with no issues. My 6 will NOT connect automatically. To get it to connect at all, I have to repetitively select the my car's bluetooth name in the discovery, and half of the time that doesn't work. When it DOES work I can't talk over bluetooth; I can only stream music.

A friend of mine called Apple today to discuss this. They acted as if it were an isolated incident, and told him to reset his network settings, phone etc.

    A) We shouldn't have to go through all of that just to connect to Bluetooth.. it's "supposed" to connect automatically once it's paired

    B) That is only a temporary fix.

Apple, if you read this, acknowledge the problem and release a statement that it'll be fixed in the next update instead of making your customers angry at your deflection of the OBVIOUSLY widespread problem. Get it together !

So funny that you said that its an isolated problem. I called apple today and she said the same exact thing. I did all that, resetting and what not, and it didn't work. I went to my part time job today and took my bosses iPhone 6 and what do you know, it connected and worked perfectly fine but my phone. Zip, nathing, nada. I reset network setting and everything. I think we all got a bad batch of iPhones and its not a software issue. IMO anyway. Oh and I had my first iPhone 6 replaced which did work fine. This replacement (which is not refurbished yet because i doubt they have been sent back to apple and back to the stores in 6 days) has been nothing but issues for me.

So annoyed. I would rather have my iPhone 5 that worked perfectly fine back.

Just got my I-6 today and it will not BT connect with my General Motors car.  Did the reset thing, no dice.  Deleted all the old iPhone devices on my GM BT and hit 'find new device' and it came back as 'no device found'.  Other issue is on the I-6 when BT turned on it says 'Devices' and just keeps spinning.  Is this the same issue others are having that hopefully Apple is fixing??

This creates a real problem for me, I am a traveling salesman and live in a state that you have to use your phone hands free.  Right now I can't do that unless I put the phone on speaker and yell at my clients- real classy like.  Between the issue with the BT and the Health APP not even working right not a fan favorite of the I-6 right now at all.

Just to let everyone know that (1) it connected with my Parrot in the car, but that (2) I have still not gotten it to discover my Native Union Moshi Moshi BT handset - it does not even "see" it

    Definitely a BT issue here

My new favorite experience is that when making a call, my handset says it is using the Honda's bluetooth, but all the sounds comes out of my phone even though it thinks it is using the car, but then my google maps tells me to turn the corner over the bluetooth no problem.  Going back to my 5 for now until they fix this joke of an issue - wonder if they have cut costs by letting their customers test their product now!
