Q: Totally stuck MacBook pro after trying to sync iphone

history:  my MacBook Pro (purchased aug 2010) was getting full and I was getting the messages that it is almost full and it starated running a little slow.  At that time I had a Dropbox folder that was pretty large from a company I worked for.  I disconnected it and deleted the folder and everything started working well again.  Last week I tried to sync my iPhone and import my pics to iPhoto on the MacBook.  I stopped it in the middle of importing photos because I decided to clean out ones I didn't want right at the phone first.  I didn't want to clog up my memory with unwanted photos.  So I clicked stop import.  Once I disconnected the iPhone, my MacBook completely froze.  I couldn't do anything at all.  No force quit option, nothing at all. Just the spinning beach ball forever.  I let it sit for a while to see if it could catch up on whatever it was working on.  Once the beach ball stopped spinning, I clicked on the apple on the top to try to restart it, but it took 20 mins for the "click" to even register and bring up the menu.  From there I could not select restart since just moving the mouse made the whole thing freeze.  I had to press and hold the power button to get it to turn off and then turn it back on.  Now, it takes about 10 min for it to get to the login screen.  Every time I click or try to move the mouse it takes the ball forever to catch up.  It has now started and logged in but can not even load my icons on the desktop.   help anyone?
