Sep 24, 2014 11:02 AM in response to Digital Geeby pedro d,Hello there, Digital Gee.
Apple just released an update for iOS 8 that resolves an issue such as you are describing:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1758
iOS 8.0.1
This release contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
• Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode.
The following article provides the steps for doing that:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch iOS software

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

Sep 24, 2014 11:53 AM in response to pedro dby Digital Gee,Thanks, Pedro,
That update was taken down by Apple about an hour after offering it. I guess I'll wait and see what happens next.

Sep 25, 2014 11:22 AM in response to Digital Geeby Brian Smith5,I have the same problem. Shortcuts disappear; a restart restores them; they disappear again later.
Pedro, the reference you cite is a different issue. The disappearing shortcuts does not involve a third party keyboard.

Sep 26, 2014 12:44 PM in response to pedro dby dino85213,Pedro,
I am having the same problem as the others disappearing key board shortcuts; I reboot or sync and the key board shortcuts magically appear, then 10 minutes later they are gone!
I updated to iOS 8.0.2 last night, problem still exists... any ideas?
This is one of the features I use a hundred times a day, and it is a royal pain in the butt that it doesn't work. But what is even more infuriating is the total lack of acknowledgement that there is even a problem, or it is being worked on, and /or will be fixed.
From what I am reading on the forums and getting from Apple Support it looks like Apple believes either A.) This error does not exist or B.) some how the user is causing this error?
The irony of all of this is I told myself I would not buy and iPhone 6 until the bugs are worked out... little did I know iPhone 6 is not the problem... iOS 8 is!

Oct 2, 2014 7:47 AM in response to karenwizby Alfred DeRose,@karenwiz, if you want Apple to know, then you should report it to Apple. They do not monitor these forums. You can file a bug report here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Oct 2, 2014 7:58 AM in response to Alfred DeRoseby Bthach,Same problem here. I've been able to repeatedly restore the phone to get them back. But by the next morning, they're gone again. I tried the hard reset (as described above) but that didn't work either.
I use these all of the time as another mentioned. I would really like to see a fix for this quickly.
I will also, file a bug report as well.

Oct 2, 2014 8:35 AM in response to Bthachby Digital Gee,I installed 8.02 hoping it might contain a fix, but it didn't. Still having same problem. I did enter my most commonly used shortcuts on my phone as tho they were brand new, and so far, those seem to remain on the phone. The others, on the other hand, continue to disappear.

Oct 22, 2014 6:59 AM in response to Digital Geeby Brian Smith5,This appears to be fixed in iOS 8.1.

Feb 8, 2015 8:13 PM in response to Digital Geeby iBarrett,This is still not fixed as of iOS 8.1.3
I Have called AppleCare many times, been to the Genius Bar and they can't help. They say they've elevated the issue and take my number but no one ever calls. This is completely unacceptable.
