Q: iCloud uninstall/upgrade error 2343

I have iCloud 3.1 running on Windows 8.1 x64 without problem.  I'm trying to upgrade to 4.0 through Apple Software Update and I was getting an error.  I have also tried to uninstall iCloud entirely or do a repair and I get the same error each time:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2343.

On the main uninstall window the step it is on says: Status: Removing INI files entries

I've tried uninstalling with RevoUninstall Free, but iCloud isn't listed in its view.  I ran the Microsoft FixIt and it ran for more than 2 hours and never finished.  After that, iCloud was missing from the Programs and Features window but I still couldn't install 4.0

I did a System Restore to last week and the same error.

How can I get it fully uninstalled or find out what INI file it is trying to look at?

The only thing I can think of is that I used to have Office 2013 installed which I have since uninstalled and maybe iCloud was still trying to point to that, although I was only using iCloud for Photostream and nothing with syncing contacts or e-mail.

I tried running ProcessMonitor while unininstalling to see if I could see what it was attempting, but didn't find it.

I didn't have to go to quite that much trouble.  I already had Revo Uninstaller, and once I uninstalled iCloud (with the option to thoroughly clean the registry), I reinstalled iCloud 5.0 with nary a problem and didn't have to fool with anything else.  Of course, it's a moot point now as it seems Apple finally solved the problem with v5.1.

According to an installer log, the iCloud installer is looking for a registry entry that (for some reason) has been deleted from the system. This leads to the 2343 error when trying to uninstall iCloud.

    Try this:

    1. Open an elevated Command Prompt. (Right click -> "Run as Administrator")
    2. Type: reg add "HKLM\Software\Apple Inc.\Internet Services" /v MapiSvcDir /reg:32 /t REG_SZ /d %SYSTEMROOT%
    3. Uninstall iCloud.

Step 2 creates the required registry entry with a dummy value. (%SYSTEMROOT% is the Windows directory. You can use something else, like C:\.)

Assuming step 3 succeeds, you should now be able to install the latest iCloud.

Downloaded ICloud for Windows 5.1 and still get the error message that an older version of iCloud must be removed. There is no older version, though there was. So clearly two things are happening.  The first is that the removal of relevant entries register etc. didn't occur when it was de-installed. Second, the new installation cannot clear this up. This is a significant bug and the longer Apple takes to correct it the worse it will be not only for the end user but for their reputation.

If all you want to do is to remove iCloud because you don't need it anymore, or it takes a lot of your pc resources (virtual memory & cpu) or even perhaps if you want want to fix it to work with the latest Office - here's my story:

I didn't want to go through the removal of my Outlook 2016, so instead...

I tried removing iCloud first (which it failed, of course with the Error code 2343), then I killed the process (iCloudServices.exe), then installed the latest iCloud and finally removed it again (all whilst Outlook wasn't running). Worked like a teat!

    Good luck!

Thanks a million for posting that solution, autoexec. I was finally able to uninstall iCloud and get rid of those annoying upgrade prompts. You really eliminated a big headache from my daily routine.

Registry fix worked for me too.  It asked if overwrite existing value (Y/N) but I see nothing like the string above under Software\Apple Inc.\Internet Services for it to overwrite.

iCloud 5.1 now uninstalled, can now uninstall Apple Software Update, Bonjour etc.

I recently ran into this issue while trying to Uninstall iCloud from my Windows 10 Pro system, that is running Office 2016 Professional, "iCloud Fatal Error 2343".  I was able to easily Resolve the issue by following these simple steps:

    1. Go to 'Programs and Features' or 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Windows Control Panel
    2. Select 'iCloud' and Click 'Change'
    3. When the iCloud for Windows Uninstaller launches, Choose 'Repair' and follow the prompts
    4. After the Repair Wizard Finishes it will ask you to "Reboot your Computer", Ignore this Message (You Do Not have to Reboot the PC)
    5. Again, Select 'iCloud' and Click 'Change' (to start the Uninstaller once again)
    6. When the iCloud for Windows Uninstaller launches, Choose 'Remove' and follow the prompts

This process worked for my system, and should allow you to Successfully Remove iCloud for Windows!
