Weird problem - if an e-mail appears on my iPhone before I see it in mail, then Mail does not find it on the server. I can't get it to show up on my mac at all. It's unread on my phone. Suggestions?

I use iCloud mail.
After you read messages on the phone, do they still appear on icloud.com?
Yes, the messages appear just fine in a browser. The problem lies with the Mail Application. It simply does not download any messages that I've viewed previously on my phone.
Try searching for the apparently missing messages by content.
that was the first thing I tried. It simply doesn't recognize them if they appear on my phone first. If I have the mail application open on the computer when the message arrives on the phone then the message shows up both places. But if I so much as see it in my inbox before it arrives on the computer, I will not be able to access it from the computer.
Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.
Linc, I did a second restart and now things are working fine. (The first restart didn't solve the problem). Thanks for your help...
