Q: fails to scan since upgrading to Mavericks

early 2008 iMac upgraded to 10.9.4 from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (20 hrs download time + 1.0 hr installation)

Canon Pixma210 all in one, MP Navigator 1.0

"MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly" is the Problem Report title that crops up when I attempt to scan now.

I cannot determine if I need to update the drivers or if there is some other software/hardware incompatibility.

Attempts to Reopen from the report dialogue box all fail.

The report has been sent to Apple but I don't know how they handle these issues.

The Canon site says  OS 10.9 drivers may be included in OS software or no drivers are available - quite vague.

I attempted a workaround by starting with Leopard (option while restarting to select external drive with Leopard) but I don't have the Canon software installed there and my CD/DVD drive no longer accepts CDs so I can't do an installation now.

From the problem report (I copied the entire report):

Application Specific Information:

" *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[NSImageCell loadingState]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xd6c900'  "

A translation of what this means and how to fix the problem would be appreciated.  Thanks.

iMac (24-inch Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Check the Canon web site for an update of MP Navigator.

Thanks for the suggestion, Eric.  I found Canon's contact support page and have begun an email communication with them.  There was no MP Navigator update per se since it is an integral part of the Canon software.  Not being able to scan is kind of a deal breaker.  I can alway revert to Snow Leopard since my computer's performance is rather bogged down with the new OS, although the current Safari does perform nicely.  There are some other rather glitchy behaviors emerging that are disconcerting, so I'm giving it another week to resolve before reverting.  New things are enticing, but not always an improvement, even with our beloved Apple.  Sigh.

    You are welcome.

How much RAM do you have installed? I have an early 2008 iMac and Other World Computing has tested the computer so that you can upgrade to 6 GB RAM, which I have done. Made it better than the 4 GB I had.

2GB currently with maximum of 4GB officially possible.  Since my CD/DVD drive stopped taking CDs (but not DVDs) prior to the upgrade, I have been considering installing maximum processing speed for my build at the time I install the new CD/DVD drive as well as upgrading the RAM. Good to know even more RAM is possible.  The major incentive for upgrading to Mavericks was that I could install the open source QGIS and PostGRES for professional level mapping analytics without purchasing an Apple developers license (!!).

Canon support got back to me:  they have not built drivers for the MP 210 series since it is older and fewer people are still using that model.  They offered me a discount from list price for another printer/scanner.

I will review the links you've provided.  If I can't get things up to speed and performing properly (emerging glitches with Safari, screen saver failing to work properly and rumors of difficulties with CS3, plus a few other issues), I can always revert to 10.6.8, use my VMWare to create a virtual Ubuntu and run QGIS/PostGRES there, or flip things around, clean install Ubuntu in the refurbished Mac with the option to boot with 10.6.8 on an external drive for any CS3 activities there or use a virtual 10.6.8 within Ubuntu.  Definitely "thinking different" here.  :-)
