Q: IOS8 and car Bluetooth no audio on iPhone 6+

Can't answer calls using car Bluetooth on ios8 with iPhone 6  but streaming music works fine. IOS 8 with iPhone 5s worked fine. Reset Bluetooth settings and still the same.  No audio at all for calls.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8

Just an up date for me...

I have been in contact with Apple on this issue. As stated in my above posts I have tried almost everything imaginable to get my phone to work.

So far I have had limited success..

The latest thing I did follows:

    1) Backup EVERYTHING from iPhone for safe keeping.

    2) Went into phone GENERAL > RESET > Erase ALL Content and Settings. ( Basically wipe phone )

    3) After full reset, I connected phone to my MAC to initialize.

    4) Screen with UPDATE CARRIER SETTINGS pops up and I accept.

    5) I set up my phone from scratch with only basic settings at first... ( Wifi / Bluetooth connections, and sync contacts from iCloud )

    6) Went to car and tested Bluetooth.... ( It works.. )

    7) re-installed all the apps that I really need.

    8) whole process was approx 1.5 hours.

So in the past 2 days since I have had SUCCESS making and receiving calls from my Audi S7.

However, Today the problem mysteriously resurfaced randomly after several successful calls...

Take note that I did NOT install and new software or updates just before the problem showed up again.

It is VERY frustrating since, I had to go through all these tests so far with no firm results.

I bet there has to be an issue somewhere with some APP that may trigger the issue. Unfortunately for me I have to run a business as well, so I just don't have the time to re-install app by app and test each time.

I sincerely hope Apple gets this fixed... I love the iPhone platform, but bluetooth functionality is a MUST for me and I may need to dump apple and move to Android if the problem is not fixed.

If Apple is listening to all of us, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this a priority!

Thanks for posting this! I will try this simple fix today and see, if I can achieve the same results...

If I am correct it may work for a day or two and then the problem will come back...

It usually manifests when you make a bluetooth call from in car and it rings 2x and then the car ends the call, however on your iPhone is shows call still in progress.

Once you hang up the iPhone if you disconnect / reconnect bluetooth to car, it shows redial of last number in car screen with NO activity on iPhone.

Not sure if we should also point finger at Audi on this one?

You are correct, my iPhone 6 Plus did the same thing on my Audi's MMI. It showed a connecting phone call on the MMI but nothing on the phone. Weird.

I don't believe it has anything to do with Audi since nothing changed there. We just got new iPhones and/or upgraded to iOS 8!

I've had luck the past 2 days but will let you know if it stops working.

I talked to my Audi technician and he also stated that Apple is working on a fix.

My problem was that the network reset didn't help at all. I believe everything got messed up with all the devices showing up under Bluetooth but I couldn't delete them as they were greyed out. When I signed out of iCloud rebooted the phone and signed back in all the previous devices were gone.

I believe it has something to do with restoring the new iPhone from a backup and some files may have been corrupted.

    Update:

Just had time to try your post,

Followed recipe exactly.... And SUCCESS!  ( As expected ).

I managed to make 10 calls from car to various numbers and I also had people dial in to car to see if the problem comes back..

So far no issues.... HOWEVER, based on my past experience, I believe that the issue may resurface after several days.

I will post back in any case of success or failure. As stated before the issue resurfaces randomly!

I posted a reply earlier with my own observations of the exact same problems and wanted to add additional issues.  I know this thread is regarding IOS8 and vehicle communication issues with many resetting iPhones etc to resolve.  I would almost guarantee that any resolution discussed will only be temporary and this is why.  I have the same issues using my iPhone 5 in my vehicle using Bluetooth to connect through the stereo (as described earlier).  However my Bose Bluetooth earpiece is also experiencing problems.  Even though the Bose device is connected through the iPhone I cannot answer or disconnect a call without doing it on the iPhone.  After the iPhone has powered down (battery save) and a call comes in I must not only answer the call using the iPhone but must also select the Bluetooth earpiece from the menu to use it.

I am 99% certain that this is an issue with the IOS8 upgrade and Apple.  They know about it, their software engineers know about it (and are probably having the same issue with their own vehicles).  Apple will never admit a problem until they have a solution (if even then).  I just hope they can see this is a serious problem as many states have 'Hands Free' laws.  It would be a tragedy if someone who has always tried to do the right thing (handsfree) gets killed or kills someone else while driving because they diverted their attention to their iPhones to accept or make a call while Apple denies there is even a problem at all.  It kinda reminds me of the ignition key debacle where cars were shutting off or the throttle sticking issue where cars were accelerating out of control and the car manufacturers denied an issue until forced to!

Very good point about the Hands free laws!  That is why this can be a "Show stopper!"

I can add that my iPhone 4s with iOS 8.02 does all kind of strange things now in my car (Volkswagen Golf with Composition Media):

    * takes ages to show directory when connected via MediaIn (iPod connector)

    * can't connect to BlueTooth Audio Profile while charging on iPod Connector (was possible with iOS 7)

    * PodCast App lost all episodes

    * jumps randomly from podcast episode to another, while the display shows the old one ...

At least I am not alone with the issue, but I think this should have popped already somewhere in beta testing ....

I have a 2012 BMW 535 and have the iPhone 6. I am running iOS 8.0.2. I can pair the car and the phone and sometimes it will be connected and work through the car and other times not at all. But every call (even if it works for a few seconds) drops after only a few seconds. I have reset the phone, "forgotten" the device, removed the phone from the car altogether and reinstalled iOS8 from factory reset and started all again and other various combinations of fixes, including "soft resets", etc. Nothing has worked. My old iPhone 5s that I use on another phone line also using iOS8 still connects to that same car and works fine, music and calls! And works in an Audi also-no issues.

I called BMW and they said they are working on an update as they said they have had a lot of complaints, but think it has something to do with the hardware and new architecture of the iPhone 6 and +. I've also heard Apple is meant to address this with 8.2. In the meantime, I have no car phone to use. I am a realtor, so now my drive time is useless!

    HELP! Any suggestions?

Ok, after 5 days and several iPhone reboots bluetooth in my car still works!! Incoming and outgoing calls. No more weird messages on my MMI either.

I Hope you are seeing the same.

    Hopefully it works for you!

I had a similar experience for a few days and then WHAM!  Problem randomly came back!

In any case rumor has it that Apple will be releasing iOS 8.1 with a fix for the issue 3rd week of Oct!

If we are all patient I am SURE it will get resolved!

I tried all these things but it didn't help me. Someone suggested I turn off "Handoff & Suggested Apps in Settings under General and it now pairs and works fine with music and calls. Paired it Saturday and have had no issues on many trips!!! they this. Hope it helps until they get an update!

DId you figure it out? I've got the fix if you did not. I gaurentee it will work     First unpair your car or your Bluetooth earpiece. Second SIGN OUT OF ICLOUD!!!!!!!! Third reset the network settings! DONE!!!! Try it, it will work. Now that it works go ahead and sign back into iCloud and everything will work correctly. lmk thanks.

I have been testing 8.1 and this version seems to fix the bluetooth issue with cars.  I use a ford sync and have no problems with it using 8.1
