    Hello,

To begin with, it would help if you could tell us exactly which modem type/model it is.

Also, which Mac OS version is running on the PowerBook?

    Walter,

Would it be correct to assume that the PowerBook is connected by an Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet (LAN) ports in the 3801HGV gateway? Have you tried the same type of connection with a newer Mac or with a PC?

Are the Mac OS 9.1 TCP/IP settings OK?

Unfortunately, the Mac OS 9.x web browser options are limited. You may want to test iCab and Classilla, since these possibly work better with modern web pages.

If necessary, you could download the browsers on a more modern computer, and then transfer the files to the PowerBook. Depending upon the exact PowerBook G3 model (original or Series), such a transfer can take place on a CD-R, a CompactFlash card in a PC Card adapter for CF, through a network, or on a USB flash memory stick. Keep the downloaded files unaltered until on the PowerBook; use StuffIt Expander for decoding/decompression once they have arrived there.
