Q: Bookmarks for maps in iOS 8 missing

Since installing iOS 8 on my 3rd gen iPad the bookmarks in the Maps app seem to have been removed.

Can we no longer bookmark a location/address in the Maps app?

Do you mean favorites ? If so I can still add and view favorites on my iPad 4.

Hi Bob. No, I don't mean Favorites. Before iOS 8 I could search for an address in Maps, hit the ">" to the right of the red pin and have displayed a window with several options, one of which was to save that address as a Bookmark. I had saved many addresses this way and could bring up an address in Maps just by hitting the Bookmarks button at the top right of the screen, then scrolling down until I could see the address that I had saved.

With iOS 8 I see Share in the top right. When I do a search of an address and hit the ">" I get a window with Address, Directions, Create New Contact, etc, but no Bookmarks.

I just wonder if Apple replaced that function with something else, removed that function. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

    Jay

There is no longer a Bookmarks in Maps, only Contacts, Recents, and Favorites (accessed by tapping the address field).

Ok, now I see what Apple's done. I found my list of saved addresses when I hit the "Search or enter an address." And when I want to save an address I hit Share, then Add to Favorites.

Thanks, Bob and James, for the help!

HI All, so we've established Bookmarks are gone and been replaced with Favourites and I can live with that.

but the Favourites don't work, on IOS 8, IOS 8.1.1..... I thought I would have to re-input my bookmarks as new Favourites, but even that doesn't work.

I Input a postcode, found location, added to Favourites, cleared my Recents, went to new Favourite, and it does not drop a pin back in the location.....

i Used bookmarks quite extensively, this might mean I'll have to get my Sat Nav back...... Is this a glitch to be fixed or a permanent loss, very annoying!

i am having this same annoying problem also, tho' on my iPhone (iPad not iOS updated yet). I drop a pin at current location and try to use Favorites to save and label the point. The label can't be edited and now has disappeared tho' the address remains. So I couldn't fix my typo and now have no label at all for the location.

I find that the solution to my labeling (bookmarking) locations problem is to store locations as Contacts. Indeed I have verified that at least some of my old Maps Bookmarks have been turned into Contacts and tapping the address in Contacts gets me Maps with a properly labeled pin.

MMy solution is the easiest.  Use google as your search engine!

There appear to be TWO favourite bookmark locations.  One is marked with a star and the other with a folder icon.  To restore your original location go to Settings > Safari > Favourites and select the other Favourite setting [there are two] and you get your favourites back again.

It took a bit of fathoming out but we got there.

I too have finally gone back to Google because Apple can't seem to understand why we like the functionality of dropping pins then having then remain visual on the map without needing to search. I don't understand why Apple doesn't get this? If I make a favorite on the map I want it to be marked visually, with a star or whatever Google uses, particularly when I'm in an area with several locations I need to jump back and forth between.

Or even have them all in a list like in Maps in OS X. Obviously I want my list easily findable in IOS. Hiding it is inexcusable. Please give Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.
