Saving WhatsApp Pictures

I have thousands of pictures in WhatsApp. Now my phone is full and I want to save those pictures to an external hard drive and then delete all pictures and chats on whatsapp to make some room again. This room would allow me to update my phone to a newer iOS Version and use my phone again. I tried the automatic download function in whatsapp, but nothing happens. NO picture is transferred to my camera roll. I tried hard reset, I tried restart, activate the function, deactivate the function, etc. I also backed the chats and everything up to the icloud and made backups on my computer of the phone. When I am in my media from whatsapp, I can only mark 5 pictures and save to camera roll myself. But considering I have thousands, that would be a very hard work and annoying. Do you have a solution for me? Thank you!!!!

I’ve encountered a similar problem on my 16 GB iPhone 6 that ran out of space after storing large number of WhatsApp media files so here are my two cents:

If you’re using an Android device, you can simply connect your Android to your computer via USB cable go to WhatsApp Media folder and easily copy WhatsApp media content to your computer. But unfortunately iPhone users don’t get this privilege. WhatsApp suggests emailing the individual chats with or without the media. To do this you need to follow these steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp conversation you wish to transfer.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap ‘Export Chat’.
  3. Finally, select the media or email the chat without media using the iPhone mail app.

But this whole process is pretty time consuming and it’s not possible to transfer a large amount of media files using this method because there is a size limit of media file attachments. But fortunately I found a third-party desktop application called iPhone WhatsApp Transfer mentioned in this guide about transferring iPhone WhatsApp pics to computer after spending endless hours on Google. This tool can easily transfer iPhone WhatsApp chats and also WhatsApp media files that includes images, videos and WhatsApp voice messages to a Windows PC or Mac.

In order to transfer WhatsApp messages or media files to your computer, you just need to connect your iPhone to your computer via lightning cable and wait till the program reads your WhatsApp messages. In the end, select your iPhone listed in the program interface or select the WhatsApp contact (If there is just one person’s media files that you would like to transfer to your computer) and click “Extract Attachments” button. Click Backup Messages/Export Messages to File button in case you want to transfer WhatsApp chats to your computer.

I tried this on an iPhone 6 but this should work with all the iPhones running iOS 5 or later version. Apart from this tool I couldn’t find any other software (free or paid) that can transfer WhatsApp messages or WhatsApp media files from an iPhone to a computer. Thanks for the A2A!

I'm facing a similar issue. I made a big mistake by choosing the 32 GB variant of iPhone 6s. I'm left with around 2 GB space so I now have to keep deleting the files to free-up space. WhatsApp attachments (photos and videos) is the main culprit in my case too. Some of these files are important so I can't simply delete them and also I cannot connect my iPhone to my computer and transfer these media files to my computer.

I just found this third-party tool and tried to transfer images, video and other attachments to my computer and it worked. So now I will transfer all the media content that I don't access on a regular basis and then I'll delete it from my iPhone. I don't think there is any other way. Next time I'm definitely going to buy the 128 GB version.
