No Sound on iPhone 4S after iOS 8 Upgrade

After updating to iOS 8 on my iPhone 4S, at first there kinda was sound for a brief period of time of about a day or two. However, that sound was noticeably distorted and inconsistent as it would go in an out. Now the phone is completely not outputting any sound at all for any function or app. I've already tried turning the phone off and on, no change. I tried rebooting the phone by holding the home key and power button together, no change.

Is there any fix I can implement now? Or am I stuck waiting until Apple releases a patch update to iOS 8?

Thanks for the suggestion re using the Voice Memo.

My problem was that, after the IOS 8.1 upgrade, I couldn't hear voicemails using my bluetooth headset, as the volume was too low.

- they sounded ok via speaker.

Going into the Voice Memo app and recording a message (via the headset) fixed the problem.

- I guess some auto volume adjustment has been (partially) added to iOS.

SOLVED!

hi guys, i have some trick to bring back your sound notifications. but first, jailbreak your iphone, and then follow this step:

1) Jailbreak the iPhone (IOS 8.1.1, 8.1.2 using TaiG)

2) Download and install ifile navigate to System / Library / LaunchDaemons

5) Within the right column find 'com.apple.iapd.plist', right click then select delete

6) Close ifile and reboot the iPhone

7) Enjoy sounds again on your iPhone!

cheers!

Compfreak YOU DID IT!! THANK YOU!!!!

I did something a little different though. I noticed the speaker in the top right (4S) was white. I touched it and it turned BLUE. I turned it white again and played a voice memo. I could barely hear it. While the voice memo was playing, I turned it BLUE and the volume got LOUD. So, I went to the youtube app and played a video AND I HAD SOUND!!! Whatever the upgrade was, it changed the voice memo playback. What a weird fix, but I'm so glad you made your post.

QUICK FIX INSTRUCTIONS

Go to VOICE MEMOS

If the speaker button at the top right or left is WHITE tap it, it should turn BLUE.

Try your apps to make sure the sound is working properly.

My sounds are very random as well...when it comes to playing any sounds except Receiving calls.. Idea for Apple!!!! How about Apple stop Releasing Crappy IOS Updates that break the phones and just re-sign the ios 7 for the Iphone users So we can have long battery life and unbroken sounds. Feels like i got bent over By apple putting this ios 8 on my phone and cant TAKE IT OFF. My favorite features with ios 8 Broken sounds and Crappy battery life. Thank you apple!!!!!

Not sure if this will help or not. I have an iphone 5 and have not upgraded to 8 yet. I lost my alert sounds - email, text message, clicks while typing, etc. I looked at all the suggestions in previous posts and tried the hard reboot etc. I checked my sounds in settings etc. Nothing worked. To not bother my husband, I turn the volume down on my games etc. But, today, there was a video I wanted to "listen" to on facebook and turned up the volume to listen to it. Suddenly, I now had all my alert sounds back. I opened a game and it was loud. So, it seems that the alert sounds are in sync with any other thing you want to listen to. Now, it will be a pain in the butt to have to remember that when I turn down the volume on games, facebook, you tube, etc, Ill have to turn it back up when I am finished. Seems these should not be linked.......

Now if I could just get my iphone5 to start "seeing" my home wifi like it used to do, Ill be in business. All other devices see it just fine.
