I found this, which might be helpful.  http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/ios-8-problems/24/

For me simply restarting the iPhone got the brightness back to baseline levels.

Definitely is a software bug, I've been fighting with customer service since march, and that's how I achieved 2 replacements, but the problem still there. And I've already notice that my old iPhone 5 which I recently updated to iOS 8, begins to show up this issue. I'm getting really frustrated 'cause Apple thinks I've been invented this to get a replacement.

I really wanted to jailbreak my phone, only to see if that''s fix the problem, but i don't want to risk my warranty coverage. So, I looked on the App Store to install an app to manage the brightness, and look if that's fix the problem; and apparently it did it. I've been monitoring mi iphone for the last 3 hours and nothing, the brightness stills on 100%. I'll do some more tests and if all goes well, i tell you guys which app it is. Greetings. (BTW, sorry for my bad english)

if one person in this thread reset the auto brightness feature on the phone your problem (which isn't a problem per se) would go awaydo a hard reset which sets brightness back to factory settings then reboot (again as the reset rebooted it).now make sure auto brightness is on. then go into a dark room and set your screen the lowest you ever want it to go..... your done.

I have 6+ but we have 3 6's also in house all worked when I did it like posted above. this came from the apple genius at store as the algorithm for iOS 8 (i am on 8.3) changed the response to auto brightness for iOS 7. BTW a google search using correct search term would give you exact answer as above.

Good Luck and yes I see the thread is from months back.

Wanna make sure I got it right because the way i did it didn't work...

    1) Hard Reset,

    2) Reboot, then make sure auto-bright is ON,

    3) Go to a dark room and set brightness to lowest I'd like to see, for me about 1/2 bar,

    4) Done?

    Is that correct?

Tried it several times, no change for me?

    IPhone 6, latest iOS.

This seems to be the software issue, I have iOS 7.1.2 on my iPhone 4S and brightness goes dim only while playing games. Previously I never faced this issue but it seems after I updated to iOS 7.1.2 it started.

Very frustrating, I was planning to buy iPhone 6 plus now I will think twice.

I have a cover and a glass screen protect.......maybe it's the problem?!?!? The heat cannot evacuate?

Tinkering with the filter setting in accessibility settings helped me resolve this issue. Step by step guide here: http://bgr.com/2014/10/23/ios-8-1-features-tips-tricks-dimming/

Not quite sure how your instructions are supposed to help with this issue? I checked out your blog but I think you might've misunderstood the problem?  My iPhone 6 (but many of us have the same problem) decides arbitrarily to dim itself whenever it feels like it, especially when playing games.  Having the auto-dim function on or off makes no difference.  Whenever the phone gets "warmer" it simply dims itself.  Why? Because it knows better than us, stupid users of this super intelligent device. What amazes me is that apple geeks are clueless as to how to fix it.....  Yes, I've been to the Apple Store, several times in fact.  Scratching heads followed by crickets when i showed them what it does..

This has been happening on my iPhone 5 since having a screen replacement two days ago

    • Auto brightness is turned off, set for max bright (I like it bright)
    • The suggestion to turn off Zoom in accessibility does not help (it was already off)
    • It's not a 3G / LTE issue for me, I see it on the latter, on wireless.
    • I can watch it happening usually when playing Words with Friends. The screen fades and loses its detail. Its a good reason to stop playing games!
    • There is no way I am going to go through a re-install on slim hopes it will fix.
    • I guess I will live with it or hope a future upgrade does something

Alan - your experience closely mirrors mine.  I've tried every trick on this forum and also some other suggestions I'd found online but to no avail.  The only thing I haven't tried is a full reset.  As you said, not worth all the hassle for a hope of fixing it.  An apple geek told me that he'd tried the reset on his personal iPhone 6 and it did NOT fix the problem.  So I'm back at square one waiting for a new software or a new iPhone.  ..and the sarcastic side of me is wondering if they're creating those flaws on purpose so we'll be looking forward to spending money on newer versions of the iPhone??

Something else that's driving me nuts is the fact you can't reply to comments from an iPhone unless you switch the browser to Private mode.  Tried it on my roommate iPhone - same.  Of course, no instruction whatsoever, I tried for days and days until someone suggested I turn on the Private mode and boom, I was able to reply.  (Private mode on my iPhone right now as I'm responding here)
