need to install external dvd drive on mac book pro

My internal DVD drive has quit, so I purchased an apple external DVD drive. How do I get me mac book pro to recognize and install it?

Mac computers that shipped with a built-in SuperDrive may not be compatible with the external Apple SuperDrive:

If it doesn't work, just return it and get a different one from OWC. Or install an internal replacement.
