Q: Remove device from "My Devices" list in iCloud.com "Settings"

Hi,

I have upgraded my iphone and followed everything to disassociate from my account.

I have turned off find my iphone, then erased the phone.

As a result, I can't see the old phone on find my iphone. Great.

BUT... if I go to iCloud.com, in "Settings", I can still see the old phone listed here, and can't do anything to remove it.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

I don't think the activation lock checker is trying to be that clever.

It doesn't know you were a previous owner, so it can only inform 'anyone' who happens to check of the current state of that device.  It's telling you that it is currently registered to an Apple ID, but that's all.   When I check my sold device, it still reads "This device can be activated by a new user."    In the case of your old device, it may have been through that stage already - but I don't think you can tell the difference, IYSWIM...

Interestingly, the old iPhone that is stuck in iCloud did disappear from iCloud tabs in Safari. That was annoying...maybe the system does clear stuff out periodically . Still in iCloud though

Well, using the activation checker was a relief. In my case, The phone that is showing up in my devices isn't even a phone that I owned. It was a phone that T-Mobile sent me for a week to test drive their network! So irritating! It has been listed at least a month, so I doubt that it will ever disappear unless Apple fixes this issue.

Does anyone from Apple Support monitor these threads? I have the same issue! Seems like they should be able to allow you to manage and remove these phantom devices.

    C'mon Apple!

I just wanted to be one of the 600 people who've added value to this thread by saying....

I have the same problem.  Does anybody know how to fix this?

Add me to this list also. I turned in my iPhone 5 as part of Apple's recycle program to the rep at my local Apple Store when I picked up my iPhone 6 and he followed all of the normal steps to wipe out my old phone prior to handing it over to them. It still appears in the settings section of my iCloud account.

To those that want to start a separate thread on this issue I recommend that all posts stay on this one as the more replies the sooner Apple will take notice and do something to fix this issue which is an obvious glitch!

Same issue here! I performed a erase/wipe on an iPhone 5s that I was selling to someone. It is still showing up under my devices in Settings in iCloud.com. Would like to have it go away!

"If you drop your phone in a river of molten lava, let it go, cause man...it's gone."  Jack Handey

Well, that may be true.  But, if you fail to sign out of iCloud before trading in your phone all the lava in the world is going to do you no good.

I also have this problem.  It may or may not be connected to the above issue.  In iTunes under "Managed Devices", my iPhone 6+ is listed as  iPhone 5S.  The association date is the date I activated my new iPhone 6+.  So I'm pretty sure this is my iPhone 6+ misnamed.  I also had ANOTHER iPhone 5S listed in Managed Devices.  Its association date was the date I activated my iPhone 5S...about a year ago.  I removed that phone from the list and it stay removed.  I also removed my iPhone 6+ (named iPhone 5S) from the managed devices list and turned off iCloud on the 6+.  It disappeared from Managed Devices.  Then I turned iCloud back on, on the 6+.  It reappeared in Managed Devices...as iPhone 5S!  For some reason iTunes is stuck calling my 6+ a 5S.  That may have something to do with the fact that I set up my 6+ from a backup of the 5S.  What's odd, is that in all other ways my 6+ gets referred to as an iPhone 6+.

If this doesn't straighten itself out in 90 days I may just go looking for that volcano.

I solved the issue by simply "reset network settings" from the old phone.

And I don't think there is such a way to get rid of the specific device from "my device" if you don't physically have it with you.

They do not delete after 90 days.  I still have my iPhone 5 in my list which I used 2 years ago so it has been in there for over a year and is still there.  They are not going to be removed automagically unless Apple has implemented some new ability.

how does your iPhone 5 that you used 2 years ago appear? It should only display devices running iOS 8, or OS X Yosemite, which wasn't released until summer this year.

    As posted earlier by SumYunGai:

    Follow the directions.

    First go to https://appleid.apple.com

Click on Manage your Apple ID and Sign In.

    Verify your identity.

    Go to Password and Security.

Click on 'Add or Remove Trusted Devices’.

Remove the device you want from the list and then you can Verify your new iPhone etc.

    ---------

It worked for me. I returned an iPhone 6 Plus that was still showing in my list of devices. Also deleted my old iPhone. All done deleted. Problem solved.

There is no "Add or remove trusted devices" link in the password and securities tab, even after you submit the answers to the challenge questions.
