iphone 4 not connecting to wifi

Hello,

I have an iPhone 4 iOS 7.1.2 and as of today it is no longer connecting to WiFi. It is an iPhone 4 NOT 4s or any other version, therefore it is NOT eligible for iOS 8.

I have restored the network settings to default.

I have restarted the iPhone

I have turned the WiFi off, forgotten the network, established a secure connection through password requirement, turned on airplane mode, and tried various other tricks listed online but I still cannot connect to the internet.

My phone indicates I have full connection to the WiFi signal, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be able to enter a password and be connected to the secured connection if 2 way communication was not happening.

Any ideas what might be happening? I'm open to all suggestions.

Hello HeatherO,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

From your post I understand that you are connected to your Wi-Fi network but are unable to access the internet. It is possible you may have a self-assigned IP address from your modem/router. Take a look at the information below for troubleshooting steps.

Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi

  1. If you're using a public or commercial network, you may need to log in or subscribe.
  2. Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
    1. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected and tap User uploaded file.
    2. If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, you may not be able to access the Internet.
  3. If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
    • If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
    • If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
      • previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
      • recently used Bluetooth accessories
      • VPN and APN settings
