Classic Mac OSMac OS X 10.9 is 13 years newer than Classic. WD usually means Western Digital. Hard drive manufacturer software should be ignored. Instead erase the drive with Disk Utility GUID HFS+ if you want it to be Mac OS X bootable. See this tip on options of formatting:

And ask Western Digital how to remove their software.
