Sep 23, 2014 2:21 PM in response to bbpilby Kappy,The UK have their warranty policies while the US has theirs. No more, no less. It is what it is. You are free to call and complain to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes
international calling numbers..
For Mac App Store: Apple - Support - Mac App Store.
For iTunes: Apple - Support - iTunes.

Sep 23, 2014 2:35 PM in response to Kappyby bbpil,No. That is not sensible. If there is a product that fails before a reasonable working life it is not fit for purpose. I doesn't matter what country it is in, a supplier of quality should not be selling a product that fails unreasonably quickly.

Sep 23, 2014 3:13 PM in response to bbpilby OGELTHORPE,My 'T' connector Apple charger is about 5 years in service with no problems and that is with virtually daily use. With your one year and my 5 years of use averages out to three years. Looks like we are on the mark.
Ciao.

Sep 24, 2014 1:24 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby bbpil,Haha. I am overwhelmingly happy that your Apple charger has lasted 5 years. I wish you many more years of pleasure together.
Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, there has been a batch of problem power adapters since then. This may be caused by a faulty production run at the chinese factory or an Apple redesign since you bought yours.
This must be the case as, otherwise, Apple would not have produced the document in the USA about getting this rectified. It seems that many of these units are proving to be not fit for purpose.
In UK, they appear to be trying to avoid responsibility by referring to the vendor. That is the back-stop in the UK but I would have thought they would do better than that.

I have the same issue - clearly a poorly designed/ assembled product that should last at least 3 years. My powersafe - 85w T connector - for Macbook pro developed a split cable with very light use.
Let me make this observation: my 2010 MBP and 2011 MBP both came with the 'L' style connector as opposed to the 'T' style. (My 'T' connector charger was for my 2006 MBP) It would seem to me that your 'T' style connector has to be at least 5 years old since the 'L' style connectors have replaced the 'T' style. You may have your facts askew.
Ciao.

Sep 24, 2014 3:00 AM in response to Klaus1by bbpil,Hi Klaus 1,
Thanks, but I was aware of that. The same applies to many kinds of products and, even though the backstop law you mention will be available, reputable manufacturers of other products - cars, washing machines etc will improve on that backstop by rectifying a clear manufacting fault to maintain their good name and reputation. This is often done significantly after the stated warranty has expired.

Sep 24, 2014 3:28 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby bbpil,OGELTHORPE, An interesting observation - but I have my doubts about accuracy.
Apart from an old ipod, this was my first Apple product, purchased 2 years ago in a sealed box from the biggest and most reputable store chain in the UK. (John Lewis) Also, surpringly, I am not blind - this one is a T connector. So you reckon someone has done a switch? I cannot recall any situation where that would have been possible but I don't think I took a picture when I got it.

Sep 24, 2014 3:53 AM in response to bbpilby Esquared,You're not blind: the Retina models have a metallic T-connector. So it can't be much older than two years.
