editing a picture to make is smaller for a locket

I want to take a photo in my photo stream and make the picture, actually the heads, fit inside a locket. I can't seem to be able to do this. What software is inherent to MacBook Pro, if at all, and if not, which program should I have? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

To fit the photo inside a locket, you need to do two things:

  • In iPhoto crop the photo to the correct aspect ratio - width to height of the locket. If your locket is circular, crop the photo so the width and height of the photo are equal, for example.
  • Then print the cropped photo to a custom size. You can set the size for the printed photo in the print panel. Select the "Custom" template and enter the width and height of the locket in inches or cm, depending on your system settings.

You can also crop a photo in Preview on the Mac, but to retrieve it from the Photo stream you need iPhoto or aperture.
