I have an iPhone 5s (iOS8) and the screen is in black and white (no vertical lines). Can someone please provide guidance as to how to get back to color display? Thank you in advance.

I have this exact issue. Mine started about 4:00pm today
OK. I just found out that if you go I to "settings" and "reset all settings" it'll work. I tried it and it did beong back the color to my phone. The only downside to that is I had to go and readjust all my settings to my prederence, but no more black and white! The color is back.
Use three fingers double touch the screen > Choose Filter > None !
To fix, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodation > Color Filters > turn it off.
Done!😉
