Q: Devices cannot connect to iPhone 6 Hotspot

This is kind of a weird issue, I recently purchased the 4.7" IP6 from T-Mobile whose plan includes 5 GB of Tethering every month.  When I setup the hotspot feature, it looks like my devices are rapidly connecting, immediately disconnecting, and connecting over again.  This cycle continues for a few minutes before the devices seem to give up trying to connect.  I have tried both my laptop and another phone and the iPhone 6 behaves the same way.

I have been able to tether via USB with only a few minor issues (it took me a couple hard restarts of the IP6 to get my laptop to recognize the devices).  Neither my laptop or my other phone were recognizable with the IP6 bluetooth search, but it looks like that is a know issue.

Did I just get a dud?  Anyone else experiencing weird tethering issues?

Go to settings >cellular, click cellular data network, in the personal hotspot enter your network APN, personal hotspot will work

Same issue here with new iPhone 6 iOs 8.4 (AT&T) and Macbook Air 2014 running Yosemite10.10.4   Apple support had me do full resets then full restore taking the iPhone back to factory settings; then they sent me to an Apple store to have the hardware checked.   The Apple Genius ran full system checks on hardware and software, all checked good.  Then I was informed that certain functions of Bluetooth are not compatible between my iPhone and Mac.  I have tried all the suggestions listed so far on this site and a couple of them worked temporarily, renaming the connection, turning off LTE voice, turning off the wi-fi on the phone...Bottom line though, I cannot tether my laptop to my iPhone just using Bluetooth like I have for years with past hardware.  I can connect my iPhone to my car or remote Bluetooth speakers and other devices, but not tether to my laptop.  Hoping for an Apple solution soon!

Hi, I'm experiencing same issue in that my IP6 hotspot is on and avalaible, however my ipad 3 mini connects to it for a short while then disconnects, then i have to restablish/select  my iphone again from the avaliable networks on the mini 3. Must be a bug, lets hope apple fix it soon, never had the issue when i has my Samsung Galaxy S5 and enabled the hotspot on there!

To all, if there is an apostrophe in the name of your iPhone, rename your iPhone so that it does not contain an apostrophe.

    This is stupid.

This all started today and I narrowed it down to being a problem with the phone and not the computer.  I read and performed the Apple recommendations with no luck.  I saw the suggestion to change the phone name if it had a apostrophe but my phone name was iPhone so thought it did not apply. Then after trying everything else I said *** and changed the name from iPhone to MyPhone and now it works!  WHY?

    Exact same issue here.

If I do a network reset of the iphone, my macbook pro (8,2) an (android) devices will connect. When connected, everything's OK and the connection is never dropped. However, after some time the devices will not be able to reconnect to the hotspot.

The other solutions I've seen in this thread (changing the password or the iphone name) didn't work for me.

    Tethering using USB always work.

I'v been in contact with Apple support, they made me try everything, back to factory reset and all, no improvement whatsoever. I didn't go to an Apple store because we don't have one in Belgium.

I tried to reproduce the problem with a friend's iphone 6 with the same macbook pro. All connection attempts worked fine.

Also, the same mac connected to my previous android phone's hotspot. Never had the slightest trouble.

This points to an iPhone issue and not a mac issue.

This was driving me crazy and I couldn't figure it out.  I read through this and the "change your tether password" seemed like it would be a silly solution, but I can also say that my iPhone 6 Plus (Verizon) bluetooth through my MacBook 12" is working like a champ now.  I would have **NEVER** thought about trying that.

Hi, did that as well, seemed to have fixed it for a little while, now problem has resurfaced again since lastest ios update, and now it's much worst current ios software: Ipad version 8.4 (12H143), / iphone 8.4.1 (12H321).

    Anybody got any new ideas!

Ok I solved the problem! I kept searching online and everywhere kept indicating that I needed to reset all of the various settings on my iPhone like network settings, logging in and out of iCloud etc. However, I realized that the one thing I never saw as a suggestion was resetting network setting on my mac! so I searched that and saw that I had to delete systemConfiguration under Mac HD/Libraries/Preferences. Here's a link http://mandarapte.com/apple/reset-rebuild-network-settings-preferences-including -ethernet-wifi-bluetooth-system-default-… so I followed these directions and it now works!

same issue I was bored enough to figure it out--at least in mine it is solid now.

changed name of phone to   Spot

made the password to Spot all numbers and I used 8 numbers like 21314251

before I was using letters and numbers and it was doing that thing where it would connect and drop over and over. Since I made as above I can toggle the hotspot on and off just like on my other 'not Apple' work smart phone.
