iPhone 6 health data is gone

I got my iPhone 6 on launch day and it was immediately tracking steps, flights climbed and total mileage. Today, after 6 PM all that data disappeared and the health app dashboard was empty. I can't seem to get my data back even after I've re-added those three items to the dashboard. If I go to show all data, it just tells me there is no data. I have rebooted the device, but everything is still blank.

I can't seem to find anything online where this was working and then it stopped, nor data cleared out.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

So after two days with no responses to this post, I finally broke down and decided to call Apple support. The only thing they had to tell me was to restore my iPhone to factory settings and then restore from backup. They offered to replace the physical device if that didn't solve the problem but since the lose it app is collecting my steps still, I know that it's not a hardware problem, but rather a software problem. I'm not looking forward to going through the long laborious process of restoring but I will do that and update this post with my results. If anyone else is experiencing the exact same issue please reply to this post with the things that you've tried already.

The 8.0.1 update that got pulled back by Apple yesterday is meant to address some health app issues, but they mostly address the integration with third-party applications, not really the issue described here.

After reading that Apple is going to come out with 8.0.2 in the next few days, I think I'll just wait to see if that fixes the health app before I go through the trouble of restoring my iPhone and my data. If anyone tries this meanwhile, please report back here. Otherwise, I will report back after I have upgraded to 8.0.2 and if it didn't work, I will do the restore.

I'm having the same problem. I have an iPhone 5s, upgraded to iOS8 on launch day. Once installed, Health app was working fine - was tracking steps, and also distance travelled. I added those widgets to my Health app dashboard.

This past Sunday (Sept 21st), I opened up the Health app, and it was empty. Nothing on my dashboard, all data was missing, AND it stopped tracking any new steps/activity. I have tried resyncing my phone, and i have also tried turning off and restarting my phone. No luck.

Meanwhile, I have had the Nike+ Move app on my phone for the last 10 months or so, and it's still working fine - ie. my activity still is being tracked in that app. Since that app is working, I believe this is a bug of some sort with the Health app.

Tonight, I just installed the new iOS 8.0.2 update on my phone, hoping that would fix the issue, but nothing has changed. Still no data in Health, and nothing is being tracked. Not sure what to do now, but very aggravating.

Same happened to me after I upgraded my 5S to 8.0.1. No data showing on my dashboard.

I don't think it is necessarily due to these updates but perhaps something to do with the complete restart of the phone (just a guess).

Anyway, I managed to resolve the problem by going into the Health Data section, where I noticed that the data was there (check in your "Show All Data") but the source had shifted from phone to heath (icons).

When I set the "Show on Dashboard" to off and then back to on, all of the data showed again in the dashboard view. You might want to give this a try.

It wouldn't surprise me if the issue will reoccur, but hopefully the above work around will fix it again.

My "show all data" is showing NO data at all. That's why i believe it's a software bug - the app isn't displaying any data or records at all. The strangest thing I find is that the app was working just fine for a few days (as i noted in my post above), and then all of a sudden, nothing.

I have tried turning "show on dashboard" from on to off to on. I have tried closing the app complete, and reopening it. I have tried restarting my phone. None of these have worked 😟

Unfortunately when I go to show all data, it just starts spinning for a while and comes back with "No Data". I also tried toggling "Show on Dashboard" off and on several times, but that didn't help. The weird thing is no matt how many times I add the items to the dashborad, they will always disappear at some random interval. I still have to try the full restore; just haven't had time yet. I will do it this week and report back.

I have exactly the same issue with no data showing.

First happened on Saturday mornng then suddenly all data reappeared during the afternoon and updated throughout the day as I input information into MyFitnessPal. I was even able to input manual data points.

This morning however Health Dashboard is again empty, all data in empty and I am unable to add manual data points (after touching 'add' nothing happens and I have to touch 'cancel' to get back to the data screen.

Also, selecting the 'Me' section causes the app to freeze totally and stop responding.

None of the following have corrected this issue:

Turn Off/On, hard reset, close/reopen app, link/unlink MyFitnessPal

Well, I have just completed a full restore of my iPhone. It was not smooth at first. The restore froze about 10% through and I ended up having to hard reset the phone and start over. The second restore went smoothly but unfortunately, this did not solve anything. All 3 iPhone measuresble components (flights climbed, steps and walking + running distance) still show "No data". I always had the option to enter manual data points, but I never actually tried to as I have no way of determining these 3 things.

I will call Apple support back, but their only option will be to replace the phone. I really don't want to do that, not only because I don't want to have to set up the device for a third time, but I dont want some white box device; I want my brand new, immaculate one. Besides, it's clearly a software issue and likely to happen again with a new device. I guess Apple won't look into this as a software issue until enough people call in about it. That said, please take a few minutes and call Apple about this if you're one of the people affected.

I will report back after speaking with Apple, but as I said, I doubt they're going to have anything other than a device replacement as a solution.

I have some great news! I just happened to check the health app just now, several hours after the full restore, and it finally has data agaIn! I guess it just took some time after the full restore. So there you have it, folks...full restore via iTunes is the fix, at least for iPhone 6 running 8.0.2.

Those of you who have posted here about the same issue on your iPhone 5S, can you try the restore and post the results here so we can call this a solution?

i hope the same issue will not recur, but if it does, i will post here again and contact Apple to let them know that the restore is a temporary workaround but a fix still needs to be published by them. Anyway, here's hoping we won't have to go that route.

Good luck and I hope this helps everyone having this issue.

One other note guys...

Although my Health app is working again, all my previous history is gone!

There doesn't seem to be an option to save this data to iCloud and it obviously didn't get backed up and restored with the rest of my data.

Does anyone know how to back up or archive data like this which is captured by the iPhone?

Zman, given your luck, i finally decided to do the full restore on my iPhone 5s (which was already running 8.0.2). i did the restore via iTunes/my computer.

the restore completed approx 2 hours ago, and so far, no luck..... health app is STILL empty, showing NO data.

I can only hope that when i wake up tomorrow, everything will be magically fixed, and this memory will be like a bad dream :-/

will report back tomorrow.

Thanks ZMan, I hope so too!

Interestingly, i found the following Apple support article while researching this problem tonight.

If your Health data doesn't update

It doesn't really offer up much, and frankly, i've tried the steps it suggests, but at least it says at the bottom of the article that Apple is going to fix this issue in a future update. Just to be sure i wasn't crazy... i just followed the exact steps in this article. And still no luck.

Let's see what happens tomorrow morning I guess.

5s/8.0.2

Using Health app with MFP.

Since 8.0.2 I've seen some recording of step data and some recording of calorie data from MFP (usually duplicated so you have to go to Health app and remove it).

On one occasion, Health dashboard was empty and all data gone.

I restarted phone and the dashboard returned.

This morning I see the dashboard has gone again.

Steps are being recorded by other apps, so not hardware, I don't think.

Health app/HealthKit and/or the back end services seem to be broken.

I don't think I'll be relying on it for anything until these basic things are fixed.
