Q: iPhone 6 health data is gone

I got my iPhone 6 on launch day and it was immediately tracking steps, flights climbed and total mileage. Today, after 6 PM all that data disappeared and the health app dashboard was empty. I can't seem to get my data back even after I've re-added those three items to the dashboard. If I go to show all data, it just tells me there is no data.  I have rebooted the device, but everything is still blank.

I can't seem to find anything online where this was working and then it stopped, nor data cleared out.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I find the Health (kit) App to be one of the worst app I have ever used in iPhone.  It is really shocking this App is from Apple.

I am using iPhone6, and have iOS 8.1 (not yet 8.1.1).   The data often disappears from the dashboard.  When I say often, I mean often, multiple times a day.  It rarely updates within 10 minutes of excercises.  Sometimes (not all the time) when I reset the phone, It displays the data, but not always.  Luckily so far I have not lost the data, since it eventually will display the data.  But whenever it feels like displaying the data to me.

In addition, I see no correlation between steps and distance.  I put a spreadsheet together to see how many steps in a mile.  It varies anywhere between 2150 to 2500 steps.   Not sure on what basis it varies like this.

I am very close to giving up on this stupid app, and go the route of fitbit or something else.

I will try to update to 8.1.1 and see what happens, but I am not holding my breath on that.

So it's about as accurate as fitbit or any other device.

I do not know about accuracy.  I have seen reports, the step counter is pretty accurate compared to fitbit etc.   Great.

But if I cannot see the data, what is the point.  I am at the mercy of the app, when it is going to show me the data.  It is not when I want to see it.  Since it is unpredictable, it becomes not a usable app.

As far as I know Apple developed the Health app to break into the Medical Tech industry and the not the wearable industry which is far less lucrative. I think its a secondary function of the app to help exercise buffs/fat people. I trialled the Health app as a exercise assistant but I don't use it anymore to track anything. Generally I think people who use current wearables for anything other than tracking distance and time don't have a clue about training.

    MetturMan, agreed.

The health app is very flaky...data disappears, reappears after booting. I'm running the latest software (8.1.1), so no hope of quality any time soon. Now I try to add data to appear on the chart and it won't... That has happened 10 times or so since I got the phone in November.

An awful lot of people have complained about this app. I've wasted enough of my time trying to get it to work. This, along with other quality issues (multiple apps, including apple originated ones, freeze at least once per day) I see on my phone make me really regret leaving my iphone 5 on the shelf. If I could return this phone and wait for the non-beta version to come out (;>), I would.

    Great input there Alex.

Read back over the comments, if you've nothing new to add please dont add anything.

The health app is beta and not really for a standard user, its for medical use.

Youv'e wasted enought time trying to get it to work? What did you do?

There is literally nothing you can do, so why waste time "trying".

Also, if you phone is having that much trouble send it back.

I know no one having crashes like that, so maybe, just maybe stop moaning and get it sorted.

It turns out the data is not really gone.

I switched from a 5 to an iPhone 6 yesterday, wanting to take advantage of the new built in features of the phone, especially motion tracking.

Then the horror of all my precious health data being gone stroke me and I came to read this post. After not seeing a solution here, I rebooted the phone and all the data was back. However, it seems to be unpacking it a bit at a time from somewhere. If you click on "Sources", then the app freezes again and you're no longer able to see the data. Rebooting once again shows the data.

I waited while the data starts to trikle down on all the dashboards I had setup and then I realize that perhaps the app is consolidating its data with the data from MyFitnessPal or Pacer or who knows which other app you had as a source.

Apple should address this bug quickly. It's annoying and scary. Imagine you learned to depend on this app for all your medical needs when you go to a doctor's visit and something like this happens. Or you fall ill somewhere and the "medical ID" doesn't show promptly to let whoever finds you know that you have this or that medical condition. At this point in time it's safer to print your medical ID and carry it along with your phone.

    Apple please fix this.

    Device: Apple iPhone 6

    IOS: 8.1.2

    Apps: MyFitnessPal, Pacer

Sources: apps feed info only. Not using motion co-processor for steps (yet). Input some of the sleep data by hand (7 days)

I am running 8.1.2 on my iPhone and my data stopped updating and then suddenly disappeared.   Fortunately, a reboot restored the data.  Still, it was rather scary while it lasted.   The only App (besides the Apple Health App) accessing my data is Lose It!

This was particularly embarrassing for me because my doctor changed my medication and asked me to keep a daily track of various parameters - blood pressure, weight, resting pulse, etc. I walked into the the surgery a month later and smugly, got out my iPhone6 Health Data App. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing to show him except the number of steps I had taken getting to the surgery. But as if this wasn't bad enough,  the GP said "You should have got an Android phone". This had the overall effect of raising my BP to about 250/190.

I  have tried all combinations of fixes in the previous posts and am currently running 8.1.2 - but sadly have given up the idea of ever getting my data back. As a software engineer, I am somewhat surprised that this sort of bug should occur. While the Health App has some fancy graphics, its only a database when all said and done. Also, the App should warn you that the data is not backed up unless encrypted on iCloud.

I shall resist using the Health App any more until its health improves.

I Hope you're able to recover the data. This is precisely what I was fearing for myself.

My data has since been restored and no further issues. Be sure to check what could be making the app (background task?) crash. I suspect this is the reason why it can't be displayed (but still exists somewhere).

I did not do a full restore, but just turned my phone off & back on.  The data has reappeared, although I'm not confident that the problem won't resurface.

Good news, finally fixed it. After updating to 8.2, Health wouldn't even load anymore. It would load to a white screen and immediately crash. I went to iTunes on my Mac and unchecked "Encrypt iPhone backup", and did a back up. Once it finished, I loaded Health on the iPhone and not only did the app work, but all my previous data from other apps loaded in to it. I went back to iTunes and turned the "Encrypt iPhone backup" back on and did another back up. After completing that one, everything is still working. Finally!

I can't turn off the Encrypt Backup feature because it win't accept my 'correct' password.
