Q: Does Setup Assistant transfer files from unused deleted apps to the new HD?

I just purchased a new Macbook pro and want to use setup assistant to transfer the data from my older Macbook Pro. Does setup assistant copy ALL files on the old hard drive? Specifically old hidden files from programs I have deleted.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

No, directly to Apple Support Community Managers. Both of you were reported. This is not a Blog to comment and start to argue between users. Let him to decide. I'm not intrested in keep replying to both of you even if call 10.000 friends to support your opinions, just a waste.

    Bye, and good luck.

Yes... other than the broad categories de-selected from Setup Assistant's dialog.

If the files left behind are not affecting your existing MBP, then they will not affect the new one. The converse also holds true.

Do not use any so-called "cleaning" utilities. Those programs are all scams.

G540516, sadly nowadays it seems every kid without knowledge can talk, but this is a help forum, don't trust teenage bloggers. Search over the web for Real reviews for those who really knows and have your own conclusions. Never use a software in automatic mode or without “reading a manual”.

There have been report after report by users who have used CleanMyMac of serious corruption of their Mac starting with erratic and/or slow performance up to corrupted systems requiring a reinstall of the system.

In no uncertain terms should any one use CleanMyMac. You'll not find one knowledgeable user here that will recommend that software or others like it.

Migration Assistant is good, but it is limited in isolating old junk.

If you only Migrate the Users you should find that most of the junk is left behind.

Avoid Migrating the applications (reinstall what you need afterwards).

Avoid Migrating 'Other Files & folders' to prevent the additional application support & drivers that are on the system.

Obviously preferences & caches are stored in your home folder, but these should be mostly OK. You can still copy any old folders over if you stored work in /Users/Shared or at the base of the boot HD.

You may also want to deauthorise the old Mac after the migration completes

    Deauthorize your computer using iTunes

Don't forget about removing it from Find My Mac in iCloud too.

Give any advice you want, but don't mess with me then.

    Bye.
