Q: How do I report an Apple Support Community user?

Wanted to know where or how can I report a user that not only never replies with valid or helpful answers in a discussion but also always replies with answers that make people get mad and loose the objective of the actual forum, please let me know if someone knows where or how can this be done.

Thanks!

    jasoprano --

I agree with you completely.  It is actually trolling.  And as you said, it's surprising to see a L8 poster continually behaving that way.

    Zach T,

Would like to hear a reply from you regarding the forum that's been referred to here already.  And also, to discuss why some posts are removed and others are not.  I have sent email to the Apple Community Feedback but never once have received a reply.  Consistency is key in terms of moderating a forum, and there should be no dependency on how long a user has been with the community, how many posts, or what level.

Would be great if this place was finally run as a community forum.  This should be a place where users can come together and openly discuss issues they are having with Apple products, regardless of whether the solution is through Apple or elsewhere.  Many people come here seeking advice after not getting any traction or attention from Apple.

Thank you all for weighing in. We try to be even handed in moderation as best we can. As you noted, as a Level 1, you do not have the ability to report posts yet. The advice to try to ignore a poster who isn't being helpful is a good one, but if you truly feel they are crossing a line, please post "Could a moderator please look at this post" and it will get our attention. I hope you feel more welcomed in ASC moving forward.

    Zach T,

Thanks.  Would appreciate if a moderator could look at the following forum and see if there are posts that should be removed.  You can see many examples in pages 562, 563.  Many other examples if you wish to go through that entire thread.  Please advise as to why those posts are not being moderated.  As others have mentioned, expectations should be higher from a non-level 1 poster.

Re: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I would also feel more welcomed in ASC if the forum feedback email would reply to inquiries.  I know that nothing is perfect and hope to continue to see improvements here going forward.

As you are not a level 1 user, would you do us all a favor and report the user if you have not done so already?  If you have, and those posts continue to remain on the thread, then I would ask Zach T to look into whether this is what ASC considers as even-handed moderating.

I'm going to go through that thread and remove some of the ruder posts. Typically when a post gets that long, we let users get away with a little more, but we do not tolerate being rude to other users. You will typically get better responses by reporting a post or bringing them up here until you reach level 2.

    Zach T,

Thank you.  I appreciate the follow-up.  I would also ask to send warnings to those users, and also after a certain number of warnings, to deactivate those users.  I have received warnings for posting info (not rude in any nature) but likely because they were not of technical nature.  In that aspect I would hope that ASC is consistent how the posts are moderated.

    Thank you.

We do have a process in place for warning and banning users. We strive to be consistent and fair to all of our users, no matter their level or how long they have been posting. I hope this helps.

    Cheers, Zack

Again I wake up this morning and I have 20 messages where at least 10 are for what I explained, here is an example:

Please someone do something about this guy.

You are correct but you must have realized by now the status quo will remain.

Stop following that thread. Any thread that has gone on for the number of years that one has and has over 500 pages is not kept around for the technical advice it has to offer or the polite conversation. It is what is know as a 'honeypot' a thread kept around for the sole purpose of giving people who what to complain and argue somewhere to go so they don't  gum up the rest of the forum (hopefully).

I'm  afraid you jousting at windmills here, just move on.

    regards

I think you misunderstand that thread. I have been following it for months because I have the same issue with my MBP that thousands who have posted there have and we are hoping someone will finally find a solution to our problems that are not being addressed by Apple. One poster gets more kick out of attacking posters trying to work it out, than helping.

No I am afraid you don;t understand the thread.

I feel sorry for you that you have a problem with your system that you have not been able to resolve but if you think a thread that has gone on for years and has over 500 pages will offer any resolution you are mistaken.

Kind of brings up images of Dickens 'Bleak House'

Actually, while the thread is regarding the MBP from 2011, the thread itself was not started until Feb 2013.  And yes, the thread continues to grow as the issue remains unresolved and with each day there are more 2011 MBP owners come across the same issue.  The thread exists for those affected to confirm it is not a one-off defect as Apple would like them to believe, and also to get advice from others who may be able to help get a little more life out of a crippled machine since not all of us jump at the opportunity to empty our wallets to Apple just because there is something newer available.

    Zach T,

While in theory what you have said makes sense as it relates to being consistent and fair to users on ASC regardless of how many posts, how long they have been a member, or what level they are, that seems to be a contradiction to the actual practice on ASC of not being able to report or not getting more attention here until level 2 is reached.  Points here are awarded for being "helpful" but that in no way provides assurance that the user will be in good conduct.

I understand that the thread in question is not the only one you are monitoring but do hope that you will moderate the behavior of users who are either rude or are not posting anything related to the thread or something non-technical.

Would you also kindly educate the users of ASC as to how threads are being monitored/moderated?

    Thank you.
