Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

SSimilar issues using wifi as far as not connecting to servers. Crashing apps this update is an unmitigated disaster and another example of poor quality control which was something they used to excel at

I'm curious how other iPad 2 users are getting on with iOS 8. Any feedback? Is this list still open?

For myself, iOS 8.1.1 seemed like an improvement after the previous version, but really didn't restore the device to it's iOS 7 performance. Safari is still glitchy. There is still a lag in typing and errors with windows loading. The net effect is that I end up using my iPad a lot less than I used to prior to September. I'll use it around the house but I'm not taking it on trips anymore. I cancelled the ATT because I don't need that any more. Strangely enough, it is causing me to question my prior commitment to Apple's media products. I'd kind of switched from buying DVDs to downloading from iTunes and watching them on my iPad. I'm starting to diversify my media sources. So it has been a bit of a wake up call for a former Mac-addict!

Try another manufacturer's devices and OS platforms. No one is committed to buying Apple products if they don't fit their needs.

I agree with you absolutely, but it has taken these problems with iOS8 for me to realize it.

I'm afraid my post wasn't clear. I got a little off point -- this whole iPad thing has made me grumpy (also, in part I posted just to see whether the list is still active). My real question is whether other iPad 2 users have been able to install iOS 8.1.1 such that they are happy with their iPads again. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? If so, then I'll persist with this. It's just it's a lot of work and distraction and I'm trying to assess whether it's going to be worth it.

Hi forensic,

I guess many of us are in now in the same situation as I am: deeply frustrated and disappointed with Apple, and probably this is the reason why we are not posting here anymore. I have spent now a lot of time doing installations from scratch, reinstallations, removing data and applications, following configuration tips from oher people that I seriously doubt that they themselves got to some point with those steps, praying for Apple's next patch to iOS come soon in the hope that the latest patch would be the one that finally gets my iPad to what it used to be just some months ago...to no avail. Since the 8 version of iOS my iPad suddenly became an obsolete artifact, and this is something that I really cannot stand.

Well, to make the story short: iOS 8 ruined my iPad2.

Yes, many have resolved their issues with iPad2 and iPhone4S through installing the iOS8.1.1 update while some still have issues with outdated Apps, and the simple fact that older devices do not run newer software as well as newer devices. It has been so for many years and as technology increases speed, it will continue to be so. I can understand the frustration of those with older devices but we don't decide what the Target Market wants in the way of an iOS or OSX.

Cheers and Happy Computing 🙂

Battery drain still *****. Safari still runs clunky. Mixed bag for something that ran fine under 7.1.2. I'd have no complaints with Apple if they wouldn't strong hand customers into an OS that does't work on older deviceS wth no forewarning. If I do upgrade to a newer device I'll be sure to lock it in time and not update it.

Agreed, ios8 ruined my ipad2.

Same as lots of users here. I had lots of problems. But pretty much back to normal now i.e IOS7 performance.

I did a clean reinstall, without apps or backup, using latest update. That did the trick.

I initially tried just running the latest update and if anything it was worse especially pages! However using the above technique seemed to finally sort it.

I think Safari is a little slower, but thats about it for me. No battery drain or any other issues. I have not had to turn off any screen stuff etc. In other words full IOS8 experience on ipad2 with slight speed trade off in Safari.

For those of you who haven't yet upgraded I would probably still stay with IOS7, but I am now happy with performance under IOS8. I use my iPad all day for work and at home for play.

I Had done the full restore via iTunes and found it helped quite a bit. However, I did that before the latest release and only updated my iPad With it. I do notice Safari is a bit slow, but other than that it is running oret good. I think I will do the full restore again to see if that will help speed it. Up

I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S. I upgraded the iPad 2 first and had problems so I decided to leave the iPhone on iOS 7. I certainly don't regret that. My iPhone is working splendidly but the iPad is causing me grief. I agree that there is always going to be a downside to hanging onto a device rather than replacing it every year or so. However, if Apple had put out some kind of statement cautioning owners of older devices to think twice about installing iOS 8, then I would not be so frustrated. Surely they must have tested the new OS on a range of devices and been aware that there would be signifiant performance issues for owners of older devices.

It's the lag that annoys me most. It's intermittent and mostly with Safari. I type something but nothing appears on the screen and then suddenly everything appears in bunch a second or two later. Then it'll be fine for a bit. Even more annoying is the way in which the device becomes unresponsive to touch. Agan this is mostly with Safari. I click on a link and nothing happens, I click again and again ... nothing. Then suddenly it's responsive again and I find myself rick-rolled into random click-bait. That's enough to make anyone grumpy. I also have the problem with Safari crashing and the application just disappearing. But my battery life seems okay.

But, being constructive about this, it's clear from these posts that I've not done enough yet. I installed iOS 8.1.1 though iTunes but I didn't do a complete wipe and reinstall. So I'll give that a shot (following instructions earlier in this list).

Thank you to everyone who contributed in the past few days. It's been very helpful.
