Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

SSimilar issues using wifi as far as not connecting to servers. Crashing apps this update is an unmitigated disaster and another example of poor quality control which was something they used to excel at

WOW! Just trying to log-in here to the Apple community, my keyboard was so slow and sluggish, when I I touched the screen I got the little box asking me if I wanted to copy what I was touching!! NO! This is just ridiculous, Apple!! Like so many iPad-2 customers out there, I am not just frustrated, I'm angry. Our high school typing teachers should have taught us long ago to be sure to only type about 10-20 words a minute ... because future technology wouldn't handle a greater speed!!! (I type about 90 and my iPad gives me fits, trying to keep up. EVERYTHING I type now is wrong.) Very sluggish OS to be sure, and your upgrade to 8.02 did NOT HELP AT ALL! My biggest problems are with the keyboard itself. For instance, when typing in FaceBook, or even in the Pages app, I will click in a text-field to begin typing, and the keyboard covers up the text field (instead of moving the text-field up above the keyboard as it used to do). When I scroll a bit to move the text field up so I can see it, there is ALWAYS some random letter typed in the box ... and the screen often "jumps" to some other place, OR it will move me off that page entirely, and onto something else. Then, the much more annoying issue is that I will be typing along, and without touching anything but my typing keys, suddenly I'm typing the end of my words or sentences at the BEGINNING of the comment or paragraph ... in front of the other text I've just typed!! I then have to erase that part, move the text cursor back to the end of the paragraph, and the page will "error out" and reload. It's the most annoying thing I've EVER SEEN with any computerized software!! Someone at Apple CLEARLY doesn't have a clue as to how to write ... or FIX their code!!! At the very least, you should be LISTENING to your consumers!!

I took my iPad2 to the genius bar and got them to wipe it clean and re-install iOS. They used the latest version (the one that came out just a few days ago). I put my stuff back on but only added the apps that I actually use (as opposed to all the crap I had accumulated but never used). Got to say it has been a significant improvement. The lag in typing and screen touch response seem to have been completely solved. Safari failed on me once, but that's the only problem I've had. In general the performance is now perfectly acceptable for an older device on newer software. I would recommend doing what I did. Thank you to people who suggested it. I'm back to being a happy iPad 2 user!

I tried everything I could think of including wiping the iPad. The only thing that helped was turning on the airplane mode. Also, I ditched Safari for the Mercury Browser. Now it works about 90% as well as it did before iOS 8. Looks like apple wanted to increase their revenue stream with the new pay system and didn't care if it made older model iDevices almost unusable.

I Restored my iPad using iTunes for the third time. Once for iOS8, then agin for ech of the updates. I swear this last one ha brought me back to 8.0. Is Apple doing this so we will buy a new iPad? Won't work here, I'll get a Galaxy. How do you ditch Safari? I'll give that a try. Next I'll restore it as a new iPad and see what happens.

I have multiple problems with my iPad 2 since the doing the 7/8 updates. I can no longer see my mac computer from my iPad, it keeps unauthorizing iTunes, it continuously kicks me off the internet and likes to reboot whenever it feels like it. Although I have my I have my own "macologist" at home, he can't fix it either. I have spent the last hour on this page seeking remedies he might have not thought of (none yet). But I do have a questions for you, why do you keep referring people to sites that either 1) you have to pay for or 2) offer no solutions (they have admitted they don't have any fixes). Any updates 7 and on DO NOT work well with the iPad 2 nor the iPhone 4. PERIOD.

petermac87,

Let me ask you this. Why would Apple stop signing the iOS 7 series for my iPhone 4 and ipad2? I just took my late 2008 MBP back to Mountain Lion OS after having issues with Mavericks. I find this a heavy handed corporate move that they won't allow you to downgrade to a functioning iOS on an older device. It even has the scent of a lawsuit in the fact that you have a product and the corporation won't allow you to have it function with the compatible iOS that was intended for that product.

At this point I'd let the small app builders make the decision to adapt there apps to the latest iOS. And if it's incompatible then you can make the decision to upgrade your iOS or even by a newer product. But this scenario is that the base product won't work like it should. Because you won't let me downgrade the iOS. I'd rather be hanging out with my 8 year old daughter then be jacking around with all this just to get my iPad 2 to work like it used to. I'm losing faith in Apple and try to have a civil response.

Beware, the apple sensors are out if force. Perhaps they think they can make the problem go away by making us go away. My post was deleted by making the simple statement,

"Your problem seems to be the norm."

Sad but true. The sensor said this site was for technical support and that I had posted a rant. Ok, here's my technical support.

Press your home and power buttons at the same time and all your problems will be solved.

Sad but true. Below is the email I received.

I believe Apple stopped signing on the iOS7 because of the interactivity that's fresh for iOS8, involving the Cloud and storage - particularly iCloud Drive and iCloud photos - that are supported in Yosemite. Once you go, there's no way back. So, for people that would be taking advantage of those services - handoff, drive, photos, having all your info everywhere, notifications between devices, etc that iOS8 either ushered in or refined, there'd be great loss of data and very angry people that their photos, notes, memories, emails (possibly) and other things would disappear forever. The only reason to update to iOS8 to begin with was the addition of all this ability to interact. The Apple Watch is on its way, as well, and there will be no provisions in iOS7 for that.

I BELIEVE, that's why they don't let people go back. Again, that's my educated guess.

As far as Apple deleting posts, they don't troll for rants. They do it when someone reports your post. So, it's a strong bet that someone took issue with something you posted.

As far as the issues, some who have persevered have overcome them. I have by, the methods outlined in my posts in this very thread, have overcome all the issues on a pair of first gen iPad Minis, which are pretty much iPad 2s in smaller form. It can be done at the Pad level. I STILL believe there's a WiFi issue with specific carriers, though, and THAT's traceable and should be reported through the link that Peter and numerous others have provided.

And regardless of any technical issues, I'd rather be hanging out with my kids than playing with an iPad, iPhone, or Mac any day of the week.
