Q: Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

Same problems on Ipad Air and Mini Ipad no Retina !

It's not just for Ipad 2. I totally agree with Dunnster09 and I hope too !

After installing iOS 8.0.2 update to my iPad mini, Safari does not work - I am unable to enter new website addresses into the browser and connect to that website.  When I attempt this, Safari crashes.

Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data will fix the crash when typing into the address bar.

Yesterday I called 800-694-7466, got a live person and can say today that my iPad2 is at least 95% back to normal!  I've been experiencing everything that's been reported on these posts since the day I was fool enough to update to iOS8, and then iOS8.0.2....crashing, freezing, sloooooooooooooooooow, AND lost my 3G!!  She guided me to go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network.  I was leery to believe and feared things may worsen, but after it rebooted my 3G immediately came back.  She had me open some of the apps as well as Safari to see if they crash or just what. The app that had crashed most often didn't CRASH but was slow, slow, slow. She advised me to delete the app and reinstall it.  After doing that it's back to normal!!  I've checked all my apps and they're functioning well again.  I did notice that all of a sudden I had 17 updates waiting in the App Store.  Most of them said to fix bugs associated with iOS8, so maybe once they updated again that fixed a lot.  As you know, the automatic updates stopped.  My remaining complaint is that I hate how Safari not only moved the bookmark list to the left, but I now have to manually take the listing back up whereas formerly after hitting my bookmark, the bookmark menu disappeared off the screen.  Also, I have to shrink the screen to close a webpage because the "x" at the top left is no longer visible until I shrink the screen. That's stupid.  The only thing I still need to do is reset my wifi everywhere I had joined but HEY, that's nothing .

So you might either try resetting your network or call that number....fill their ears loudly and make Apple DO something about to avoid such calamity in the future! She did ask before I hung up if I was experiencing any other problems because "Apple is documenting every problem being experienced so that the update will fix them all."  Sorry....not sure I'll trust another update now that my iPad2 is at least functionable!!  iOS8 rendered it practically useless for a week!  If Apple's scheme is to force us to purchase new hardware, I can tell you that it won't be Apple.  I went to Samsung phone a few years ago and their product is of such quality that there has only been one OS update in all that time, and not ONE problem with the update.  Quite frankly, I'm tired of all the drama, I'm tired of seeing people line up as if they're waiting for food in the depression years.  There are many more great options that Apple these days.

    Great post Bmeadors,

I tried this on my ipad2 and found this has really helped smooth out the " jerkiness" when opening apps as well as sspeeding everything up.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I tried this on my ipad2 ,worked great to speed up performance of my iPad after the upgrade made it almost unusable. I recommend resetting the network to anyone having the issues of jerkiness and slow performance after the ios8 upgrade.  Thanks again

So I did the thing and now my iPad is, as you say, 95% back to normal. I didn't even have to delete and reinstall any apps! Yay!

Thanks, Bmeadores - did what you said and it made a huge difference!!! Not opened all apps yet but seems it is running a lot faster and not jerking - I did upgrade to the 8.02 prior to the fix you suggested but it did not help,  resetting the network brought my ipad@ back to it's old self.

I'm so glad the reset helped so many!!  Sonya221, I think we can all say that our iPads are NOT what they once were, but I'm grateful for the 95% back to normal at this point.  Copy and paste still doesn't work, which is irritating, but at least I can use an app or get on Safari without such jerking, crashing and freezing.  Not perfect as before but much, much better.

I did the reset as well and things do seem a bit smoother, still not as smooth as I would like when I 'toggle' from one app to another..it always wants to refresh everything and that drives me batty !  But I appreciate you sharing this with us and giving us a little bit of sanity back ... LOL !!!
