Oct 14, 2014 4:57 AM in response to Newrevby Bobg635,
I have iPad air and iPad mini and both of them are having the same problems. The biggest problem is Apple. You tell support chat what the problem is and theyhave you doing the same thing. Restore to factory settings. I do it and back to same problems. Please Apple just fix the problem and stop the BS. -
Oct 14, 2014 5:05 AM in response to flygreg88by ahimsa1998,Same issue here with my iPad 2. Problems are numerous. Screen freezes, keyboard freezes, battery drain, Safari slowdown....... It's like I'm back to using my old PC (before it finally died). Apple.......please don't make me regret my switchover to all Apple products.

Oct 14, 2014 6:10 AM in response to flygreg88by Aimee171,Having similar problems with iPad2... Copy and paste - NOT WORKING!! It seems to remember the first thing I copied after updating, but will not copy anything new and just pastes the same thing every time... Swipe usually causes crashing. Everything is really, REALLY slow! I was using it more than my 7 year old Mac, but not lately-the old guy is faster these days Either let us go back to 7, or fix 8 soon!!!

Oct 14, 2014 7:40 AM in response to windyhoekby Star Traveler,Keep in mind ... that many users here on this forum are getting good results from resetting their iPads to the factory default condition, the way it was when brand new. This clears out all the garbage that people have accumulated in their systems over a long period of use. This is something that should be done anyway, even if you have no problems at all. And these people are currently running iOS 8.0.2 (which Apple has made no changes to) ... and find their machines are running just fine.
That's what I've been posting in order to help a lot of people here. For anyone else reading this, here are the Apple Support Links for backup and then ... for setting it back to factory default, below.
ALSO ... do know that some people have restored their backups and found out that things slowed down again, which means there is something in the backup that is causing trouble. And many times that could be an app or two that is troublesome. I read the other day that another user had Apple run their special diagnostic software on his iPad and Apple found one particular app that was very bad (causing slowdowns and interaction problems). So, they told him to get rid of the app. When he did, everything returned to normal. So, do realize that even though resetting to factory default helps many people (and it should be done every year anyway, I say ...) that there could be other apps which could cause the trouble, too. And then, as many have reported here, clearing the setting helps at times, too. I've had to clear my network settings a few times, when Safari seemed to be "hanging". And when that happens, it solves that problem. Anyway, there is not just one particular solution that helps for all, but the resetting back to factory default is something everyone should do anyway ... and ... be sure to do your backups, too.

Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKASSOLVED: IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX: FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device. Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now! :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

Oct 14, 2014 7:45 AM in response to ahimsa1998by Star Traveler,If you set it to factory default condition, without any of your data on there (i.e., don't restore your backup just yet) and if those problems persist with a "clean" and "pristine" iPad, just like those that are right off the factory floor ... then show that to Apple Support in person. I've already read that several people (when they actually show Apple in person), that Apple has replaced their iPad. To me that's a sign of a hardware failure of some sort, in which Apple replaced the hardware for them, and things worked fine after that. You can possible have a hardware failure ... and not have known that before. It's not unusual for it not to show up in one version and all of a sudden show up in another version of the software, because that new version is doing things not done on the previous version which then "shows up" the hardware failure. That's not unknown, so it pays to reset back to factory default (just like it was off the factory floor) and show it to Apple! I hope you have good luck with it - as many others here have had.

Oct 15, 2014 1:33 PM in response to flygreg88by ceejaykay,I agree totally. And I am upset that they let us put 8.02 on the iPad 2 in the first place since it doesn't work. And they told me I can't go back to IOS7 either. So I now have basically lost usage of my iPad.

Oct 15, 2014 2:04 PM in response to petermac87by ceejaykay,What would you suggest I try for making the internet/3G work again?
It appears that I am not the only person with this
problem so I don't think the iPad itself is the issue, but the IOS 8 software.

Oct 15, 2014 2:21 PM in response to petermac87by ceejaykay,I spoke to Apple tech support 3 times, am scheduled to go to Genius bar, but this is not a hardware problem. I am asking if there are settings or something that would make the internet to be unreachable?

Oct 15, 2014 2:21 PM in response to ceejaykayby petermac87,Read the posts above and try the troubleshooting tips. Many have and that has fixed their iPad2 issues. Complaints here are falling all the time. Blaming the software is all good and well, but will not help you fix your issue.
Good Luck

Oct 15, 2014 3:04 PM in response to ceejaykayby Bmeadors, ceejaykay, have you tried resetting your network? On page 10 of this forum I posted a rather lenghty explanation of how to do it and an 800 number that was quite helpful to me. I too have an iPad 2 and had lost my 3G, screens were freezing, everything slow and/or crashing. Since following the instructions provided by the Apple rep at the 800 number I'm back to 95% normal. I did have to reset again once, but have found since that time that if I experience even slight freezing if I simply turn my cellular off and then back on that I'm back to 95% good. I've had absolutely no more crashing. I opted against doing a default reset since the network reset at least has me back in the saddle.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Oct 16, 2014 3:19 PM in response to Star Travelerby zimbabwechum,Whilst I appreciate the methodology you have outlined, the immediate problem that comes to light is that my iCloud account is limited to 5g whilst I have about 6.5 g used on my current system. Presumably, unless I remove a substantial amount of data, I will have to pay for an extra amount of space on the Cloud, which I think is unacceptable given the circumstances. If the upgrade is so troubled that we have to employ this solution, what is Apple going to do to mitigate against any costs and time involved for every customer affected?

Oct 16, 2014 3:30 PM in response to zimbabwechumby Star Traveler,I have usage on my iPad of around 60 GB and my iCloud backup uses about 14 GB. You'll find that iCloud backup doesn't take GB for GB space on the backup. Also, you need to be aware that some things are not backed up on iCloud, so study the documentation.
