Nov 1, 2014 7:14 PM in response to flygreg88by peterfromwarwick,*********** PROBLEMS FIXED ************
I have spent the last month trying to get my iPad 2 running like it did before 8.0 and 8.1. Finally chatted with Apple support for two hours trying many things. Then I followed their instructions to do a full factory reset, reinstalled all my apps, and recreated all of my email accounts.
Nothing, nothing, nothing worked! My iPad still runs crappy and web browsing (on any browser) was still tortuously slow and choppy.
Then I tried this..... I put the iPad on a shelf, went out and bought a Surface Pro 3. Now my tablet is running with lightning speed with an abundance of apps, and the user interface is performing great!
Bye Bye Apple.

Bye Bye
Sorry to see you leave the Apple Support Forums. I hear the Windows Tablets are faultless and their OS is stable. Also that their forums have no complaints at all.

Nov 1, 2014 7:45 PM in response to peterfromwarwickby Conker123,Glad things worked out for you.
I inherited an iPad 2 at no cost so I don't have much recourse to whinge here. As far as my experience goes, iOS 8.1 runs adequately on the iPad 2 if your requirements are not too demanding. In terms of sheer speed, my Nexus 7 2013 wipes the floor with it, but that said the iPad is still perfectly usable for web browsing and email.
*The mail app seems to be a little buggy and crashes from time to time necessitating a re-boot.
PfW, now that you don't have anything to lose, why not try reinstalling iOS 8.1 under iTunes and creating a new Apple account? (Apologies if you have already tried this). My line of thinking is that there might be something in your previous account which doesn't sit well with iOS 8.1 (other than the iPad!).
Could be worth a shot - better than an expensive paperweight.

Nov 1, 2014 7:56 PM in response to peterfromwarwickby machead99,I Am inches away from doing the same thing. iOS 8 is crap! The sooner Apple realizes we aren't accepting crap the better! I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 for my phone and next time it will be an alternate Andriod tablet. Apple customer support always gets great ratings because their stuff used to always work. Let's see how customers rate them when they actually have to deal with very dissatisfied customers.
THe end is near for Apple I fear and I wad actually a big fan!

Nov 1, 2014 8:09 PM in response to machead99by petermac87,So what about the many many million peoe still using IPads and iPhones with no issues. Do the handful here having issues on iPad2s represent the entire Ape customer base? Where are you getting these figures from? Please post the links where you have read this.
Thanks in advance

Nov 2, 2014 5:31 AM in response to flygreg88by Gar01821,Best fix for IPAD 2 with IOS 8.
Make two Settings changes.
Change 1 ; go to Settings / General / Accessibility / Reduce Motion / Turn on
Change 2 ; go to Settings / General / Accessibility / Increase Contrast / Reduce Transparency / Turn on
Display will look a little different, but the IPAD will be useable and run much faster. Worked for me, let me know if it works for you.

Nov 3, 2014 11:16 AM in response to flygreg88by lucy6203,I've given up. My iPad 2 opens, if I'm lucky for about 10 seconds a day now. Otherwise it just stays in crash loop the rest of the time. I've re-set, re-stored, wiped so many times and wasted so many hours in so doing so, all to no avail. iPad's now in the bin and so are Apple.

Nov 3, 2014 11:21 AM in response to lucy6203by Star Traveler,When someone takes their iPad in to Apple, the first thing they do is run a hardware check. Have you had that done yet? The reason why I ask is if it's not a hardware problem, then the iPad 2 model will run on iOS 8.1 ... without a doubt. It pays to know for sure that it's not a hardware problem. Then you know for sure you can get it going again.

Nov 4, 2014 12:50 PM in response to Dunnster09by miriamfromrockport,After installing new operating system have all the same problems. I eliminated apps that took lots to MB, lots of songs, and photos. Theses measures helped some. Still cannot find my bookmarks, won't let me open them, and will not download my magazines. Only a few pages then won't continue. even typing is slow. What can we do?

Nov 4, 2014 1:03 PM in response to flygreg88by lucy6203,My iPad 2 doesn't work at all since upgrading 8.2. Just loops its way through boot up and then crashes. Have given up and thrown it in the bin. Never buying another Apple product again

Nov 4, 2014 1:12 PM in response to lucy6203by Star Traveler,Since I know the iPad 2 can run iOS 8.1 without problems, before throwing it away, send it to me ... and I'll pay for the shipping. I can always use something like this!
