Q: Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

A Fix on the way is geeat news.  I may give it a week or so before updating though.  Want to see if it causes any more problems before doing it.

My iPad began to flicker so badly with OS 8.xx that it is now completely unusable.  Apple really messed this up.

Delete the Facebook and Messenger apps and reboot. Do NOT reinstall them. your iPad will run MUCH better.

I can understand that Facebook app ... as Facebook seems to have terrible programmers! Their app would certainly mess around with the iPad system!

In regards to the Messenger app, are you talking about Yahoo messenger, for example?

AND ... it's good to hear we have another tool in the toolbag of solutions!

i was talking about Facebook Messenger - the app they make you download to read Facebook messages.

I can't believe how much better the iPad Mini runs after deleting the FB app (and Facebook Messenger) and rebootng it.

You Bet! People should scrap the Facebook apps permanently ... they definitely ARE a big problem!

FIRST I would check out your hardware with a hardware check at Apple. Assuming that is okay, I would follow this troubleshooting methodology ...

Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!

First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.

Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.

On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.

This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

I would follow that troubleshooting methodology I just posted in my previous post a few minutes ago. Take a look at that one! Be sure you're using the iTunes program on your desktop, to get a clean install.

I upgraded my iPad2 to iOS 8.1.1 though iTunes. Vast improvement. Maybe Safari is not quite as quick as it was before iOS 8, but t's close enough.

I upgraded to 8.1.1 right away, and it seems to be a big improvement.  I didn't have some of the problems mentioned recently -- WiFi worked fine, for example.  The worst problems for me were related to editing on forums and sometimes the "copy" wouldn't work.  I just tested the copy, and it works.  So far, editing seems to be back to normal.  So, I'm calling it good.

This forum's editor still acts weird, but I don't think that's iOS, just this forum.  One of my favorite forums works fine, now.
