Q: Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

I also upgraded to IOS 8.1.1 and it was better but not perfect.

I decided to do a complete wipe and reinstall using the technique outlined previously.

    i.e. Power down iPad.

Connect to iTunes and hold power button and home button down as you turn the iPad.

Reinstall software and choose to do factory reset.  Do not install backup.

    Reinstall apps you want etc.

    Result FANTASTIC!!!

It was as good as new no lags no glitches nothing!  Plus it had all the functionality of IOs 8, did not have to turn anything off etc.

    Hallelujah

Battery drain still *****. Safari still runs clunky. Mixed bag for something that ran fine under 7.1.2. I'd have no complaints with Apple if they wouldn't strong hand customers into an OS that does't work on older devices.

I learned a lot from your contributions to this discussion. My problems with my iPad 2 were not serious at all - which might have been to do with carefully confining my types of use of it, its capacity (32GB) and suchlike conditions. I was astounded at the virulence of some of the expressions of frustration. Hearing today about how much like a huge computer machine very large (and successful) corporations can be in handling PR and the like, I think bashing at them is very like bashing at a faulty washing machine. A quick look at the metadata soon shows them in what direction they need to direct their not altogether scarce resources. I'm posting this in order to commend you, but also to test if the discussion has actually been closed.

OH please. Just because you like their junk, doesn't mean the rest of us will put more money into a company/product because some idiots think it's cool. Any android tablet puts this USELESS ipad to shame. I'm guessing you are not about function or productivity, but what you think is cool. My ipad is 2 years old. Hardly a dinosaur. They  have rendered it USELESS, even after the 8.02 update. DON'T UPDATE PEOPLE. It's worse for me, same issues as everyone else.

KEyboard doesn't work, as you can see from the start of this sentence, lag, lag, lag.

    EMail doesn't work anymore.

    SAfari crashes.

SAys I am not connected to internet when I am.

NO more smooth anything. Just jerky, slow, useless.

SIri freezes and I have to restart.

I will never spend a penny on another Apple-anything.

Have you tried to fix it using any of the methods outlined above?

If he had, he would not have had to write that post. and if he thinks life is better on the Android side, he's in for a world of disappointment.

I have tried several of the things posted on this site. None of them worked. So, I should spend HOURS saving things on the ipad to dropbox, so I can wipe and rebuild a device that was corrupted by an unwanted/bad update?

I'd rather put the ipad in the box and forget it. I don't want to spend another second on this junk. Other than FT, I will not use it for anything.

He is a she. That's what you get for assuming. I went back to a 5 year old android table, running jelly bean, because I can't stand the ipad anymore. Funny, when I stopped using the Acer android tablet, I did so because I thought it was slow and it was irritating me. Now though, it runs better than the ipad. So I'll use it.

I don't use the ipad for silly things like music or games, I use it for FT, and to work on, to be productive at my job, which means I have to be on the internet a lot. If that doesn't work, then it's useless to me.

My 5 year old, Acer Iconia is FASTER, more stable, and just works. You don't know android if you think ipad is better than anything android. ipad is HALF the machine that an android tablet is. Heck, my android phone is better than ipad.

So sorry, you're just flat out wrong.

Sorry about the gender mixup. So, based on your logic, before you decided to update to iOS8, the iPad was better than the Android? It is just the iOS8 update that's causing you problems? Having gotten many iPads back to iOS7 performance, I can truthfully say that it WILL work fine if you wipe it, set it up as new, and don't restore from a local backup. Also, avoid apps that make illegal use of memory, such as Facebook. My iPad Mini is running flawlessly, and I was ready to toss it out the window before. I know it's frustrating, but the backup to the cloud, while it takes a bit of time, doesn't need to be attended time. You can play with your Android while that happens. In fact, the hands-on time involved in making it work is less than five minutes. Two minutes if you know what you are doing. Having lived in all three worlds, I'd cut any a little slack for something like this, any day. But I would never put up with the day-to-day frustrations of living in an Android or Windows world.

    Also, what is FT?

    FT= face time.

It's the update that has caused the issue. But really, I have never found the ipad to be that user friendly, or functional. The first thing that bugged me about it, and it's a big one, was the fact that if you wanted to organize your photos, you couldn't. I like my photos in albums, and even though you could put them in the album, you could not delete it from the camera roll, because it would delete it from the album. How stupid is that? They only LINK to the original photo, not make a copy of it. Lame. In android, I can MOVE the pic to whatever album I want. Period.

In ipad, it's next to impossible to move the cursor if you are trying to add/correct a word in a sentence. Oh sure, you can hold and wait for the magnifying glass to come up, but again, lame and a time waster. In android, I can tap right where I want the cursor to be, and wallah, there it is.

In ipad, I can't see a lot of things on websites, because much to the disappointment of apple, websites are just not complying with their insistence that the whole world moves to html 5. Ain't. Going. To. Happen. In android, no problem. I see everything.

In ipad, you can't have a home page for Safari. In android, I can. And, until this last update, you couldn't even request a desktop site, now you can, but it's a PITA to get to. In android, been there all along.

(continued-said I included content that could not be posted-even though nothing was not allowed- I am so done with apple!!!!)

In ipad, functional apps don't exist. For instance, it wasn't until this upgrade that you could add another keyboard. SK is now the only one available that I could find, but not even it solved the lagging keyboard issue after 8. In android, dozens, maybe even several dozen keyboards are available, and have been for years.

    (continued---arrgghhh)

There is more, but for some stupid reason, they won't let me post it. I am DONE. Period.

So, essentially, you simply don't like the way things are done on an iPad and at Apple. You are an Android fan and simply came here to grouse. Well, if that floats your boat, then go for it. I prefer the simplicity and intuitive nature of the Apple platform across all OSs and hardware. Seems a lot of people do.

Happy Thanksgiving (if you are one who gives Thanks on this day) and enjoy your life. Sorry Apple didn't present the myriad of options you crave!

LOL, intuitive. Hardly. Simplicity, yeah, it's good for simple minded people for sure. It's also good for impressionable people who like being told what to like, what they want, and what to buy. Last thing I need in my life is a control freak company telling me what I need on a device I PAID FOR.

YOu enjoy your day as well. (See, the just the fact that it caps the first 2 letters of each sentence shows just how f'ed up this os is. )
