Sep 30, 2014 12:46 PM in response to flygreg88by pmbrinic,Like others, my iPad 2 (16 Gb, wi-fi only) is just not the same as it was under iOS 7. I am running iOS 8.0.2
Here's a list of steps that I've taken that have improved matters, though I still have trouble clicking through to hyperlinks on Safari.
Go to Settings
Spotlight search
turn off as many as you can
Accessibility
turn off everything EXCEPT "Reduce motion" -- turn that ON
Background App Refresh
turn off
Keyboard
turn auto-correction off
turn split keyboard off
------

Contacts
turn this off for all apps you can
Photos
turn this off for all apps you can
Microphone
turn this off for all apps you can
-----
iCloud
turn this off for all apps you can
turn share my location OFF
iTunes and App Store
Automatic Downloads
turn off all that you can (I leave only app updates turned on)
-----
Safari
Preload top hit

Don not track
turn on
Fraudulent website warning

After changing all of these settings, do a hard reset (hold the power button and the home button in for ~8 seconds). Let it boot up and reconnect, then repeat the hard boot once or twice again. I hope that you will find that your trusty iPad 2 is at least functional, if not a match before it got trashed with iOS 8.
So now my iPad is working at a level I consider marginal. But why Apple's engineers could not foresee these problems I don't know. Perhaps they're all kitted out with brand-new iPads, or they tested out iOS 8 on virgin iPad 2s that had not been loaded up with apps and contacts and such. In any case, I certainly will not be jumping on the Apple update bandwagon ever again. Instead I'm shopping around for what Samsung now has to offer. I know Android is not without it problems, but, after all the pre-release about iOS 8, I find Apple's behavior quite obnoxious. The company should be acknowledging that this was a screw-up and that they are going to provide their customers with a real fix or with a way back to iOS 7. And I don't mean just a re-install of iOS 7 (which would require re-installing all apps, settings, et cetera) but a way of going back to iOS 7 and then being able to use a backup created under iOS 8 to bring my machine back to where it was on September 16th.

Sep 30, 2014 2:00 PM in response to flygreg88by ladonafrommilwaukee,I Have been having similar issues since the iOS 8 update. Safari won't often allow me to click on searched items if I have multiple tabs open. When using the Pintrest app, it won't allow me to edit existing text. The app crashes every time I attempt it. Very frustrating in general. Poor upgrade.

Sep 30, 2014 2:24 PM in response to pmbrinicby Jwp721,Greart ideas pm. I have done a few of your suggestions but not all. At some point I think I would rather experience a slower response then to remove everything. I am still running 8.0 and am not ready to move up .2 quite yet.

Sep 30, 2014 5:08 PM in response to flygreg88by confusedorwhat,I am locked out of my iPad 4 after updating to iOS 8.0.2.
I've clicked to update my iPad 4 with iOS 8.0.2 . When I came back to my iPad it had closed down. I turned it back on and on the screen was the "connect to iTunes image". I connected it to my MacBook Pro and the message in iTunes said * "if I was experiencing problems with my iPad I had to restore it before I could connect to iTunes." The only other option was to eject the iPad . As I couldn't do anything on the iPad I chose restore, clicked on OK to restore to factory settings . It starting downloading 1 update - iPad software update. This took about 50mins. Once it had finished it said *"If I was experiencing problems etc" again! I repeated it all again and yet again it said "if I was experiencing problems with my iPad I had to restore it before I could connect to iTunes" !
It seems to be stuck on a loop! I can't do anything on the iPad and nothing resolved by restoring!
HELP! What do I do?

Sep 30, 2014 6:08 PM in response to Team Tractionby peterfromwarwick,I tried all of the suggested solutions mentioned in this thread, and finally did a full reset according to Apple's instructions, step by step (as an engineer and 40 year computer user I am good at that stuff).
Sorry to say after the several hour process, not one of the problems I have experienced have been solved.
IPad 2 is still running slow and choppy.
Some Apps do not even load.
Website pages will not load and result in error messages. One particularly annoying Safari error on loading a new web page is: "a problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded".
MY iPad 2 worked perfectly for the last couple of years through several updates that performed seamlessly, but this one and the two most recent corrected updates have rendered my iPad so degraded that I don't think I will be using it much anymore. I originally bought the tablet because of it's smooth GUI and fast performance, the reliability and error free environment, and Apple's proven record for effective updates. That's all gone now.

Sep 30, 2014 6:21 PM in response to jinkhaosby peterfromwarwick,Jinkhaus,
I bought a Surface Pro 2 several months ago and I have been using both since then. The Surface is a great machine and while I have been leaning toward favoring the Surface, I continued to use both (Surface for work and iPad for leisure). Now with my iPad being trashed by IOS 8.***, I'm jumping off the Apple cart and will now use my Surface for everything.

Sep 30, 2014 9:43 PM in response to Dunnster09by Moonlighter475,I had the same problems when I installed iOS8. Frankly, it was disgraceful. Safari crashed so often that I had to resort to my PC to log onto this community to try to find possible solutions.
I ended up getting onto the Apple support page and doing the live chat thing. I had already done a full system reset which made no difference. Being out of warranty of course, I had to tick the box that indicated that I thought there was a special reason I shouldn't have to pay for support! Anyway, long story short, apart from suggesting that I do a full system wipe and restore from an iTunes connection to my PC, they couldn't offer anything useful. Let them know how cheesed off I was with their stupid update and was told there was no way possible to revert to iOS7 (which of course there may well be).
I turned my iPad2 off completely and put it away, had to do that, otherwise it was going to learn how to fly!
Later that day I turned it on and the performance seemed to have gotten better. Hmmmm, I think to myself..... that seemed to help!?
So I then turned it off again, waited a few minutes, and turned it on again. More improvement.
Have now done that several more times, and at last it seems that I am getting back to something close to iOS7 levels of performance.
I had held off doing the iOS8.02 fix, but have now done that now, it only took a few minutes, and things still seem to be running fine. I also did the "pinch screen in safari" solution mentioned earlier in this thread, not sure if it made a difference or not.
So give the old shut down and reboot multiple times solution a try, everyone. It cant hurt, and in my case has got things pretty much back on the rails.

Sep 30, 2014 10:21 PM in response to Sonnyboy89by Ken Haggerty,I was also able to revert to 7.1.2, within 36 hours of the iOS8 train wreck, but with a loss of a lot of iCloud data. My iPad mini's performance was totally restored, with only one or two very minor glitches remaining. Safari is working well, I can save stuff to my clipboard and also retrieve it later, apps aren't spontaneously closing, etc. I keep checking this board for information on 8.0.2 to see if it's time for me to try upgrading again. Looks like it's not. I feel for you guys who are stuck with it. I was beyond angry and frustration when the debacle first hit. What's makes the whole situation more aggravating is hearing NOTHING from Apple, either directly or in the media at large, regarding resulting iPad malfunctions. No apologies, explanations, plans for remedies, or acknowledgments of any kind regarding our very serious woes. What are they going to do about this?

Oct 1, 2014 1:11 AM in response to Dunnster09by Beansprout-London,Well one recourse might be to start a class action against Apple.
Seriously, if a major tech company releases a piece of software that's more damaging than a virus, they need to sit up and listen. The reputational damage would be colossal.

Oct 1, 2014 1:23 AM in response to Beansprout-Londonby alittlebooboo,How does one get something like that rolling? Sounds like the right thing to do at this point since Apple is not acknowledging the problem.

Oct 1, 2014 1:37 AM in response to alittleboobooby Beansprout-London,I guess you get a number of individuals to get a no-win no-fee law firm to petition Apple. They'd be all over it like a cheap suit in the states...
